Phil Volan & Joleen Bell are well-known for their high-caliber fingerstyle acoustic guitar talent and professionalism. They play beautifully crafted originals and covers on mainly fingerstyle guitar and vocals with beautiful tight harmonies. Or they may play all instrumentals. They are widely versatile and perform many different venues including concerts, conventions, festivals, weddings, restaurants, and house concerts. Phil & Joleen are the most requested duo for private events at the 5-star Broadmoor Resort Hotel. In 2002, Phil earned 2nd place at the prestigious National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kansas.
We just loved having Phil and Joleen at my husband’s birthday party! They are AWESOME! Phil sounded so much like James Taylor and Joleen sounded so much like Joni Mitchell. They played a perfect mix of instrumental and singing. They played a perfect variety of tempos and types of music, with guitar and banjo, a special request song, and some beautiful original works as well. We got so many compliments and our guests had so much fun singing along and dancing and just enjoying the entertainment. Thanks Phil and Joleen!

We sing and play acoustic fingerstyle guitars, with a little banjo. We are reliable and easy to communicate and plan with. For weddings, we provide lovely instrumental duets as people gather. We have several nice processional and recessional songs to offer, and often arrange special ones by request. Many years of experience has given us lots of songs and a completely professional attitude. We draw from a long list of songs and styles for all kinds of events, whether for intimate listening or a large noisy gathering! We'll also dress right for the occasion.
We are a husband and wife duo based in Colorado Springs performing together at ceremonies, receptions and concerts full time since 2002. We would love to create the perfect music for your wedding, reception or special event. The organic quality of our guitar duets (instrumental or vocal) played in the fingerstyle technique is perfect for ceremony prelude music. We offer many ideas for processional and recessional songs, and a really broad variety of appropriate music for a reception. We make a very full sound with just our two acoustic guitars, vocals and a banjo added here and there. We travel with a state-of-the-art small Bose PA system, and can provide sound reinforcement for the minister as well.
Although we are most focused upon weddings and receptions here at GigSalad, we often book corporate events, parties, and concerts. We are the most frequently requested duo at the Broadmoor. We have several recordings together both duet and solo. If it's beautiful fingerstyle acoustic guitar with tight vocal harmonies in the tradition of older American standards, to the music of the Beatles, James Taylor, John Denver and countless others from the 60s to the present that you seek, we are probably the perfect fit. And our ability to also perform most songs as instrumentals is a plus.
The Black Rose Newsletter music reviewer Stew Levitt describes Phil and Joleen's playing on they're instrumental CD "Carousel": "Starting with the opening harmonics of "Carousel," each guitar teases, withdraws and pursues each other like two children on an afternoon outing. This is acoustic guitar at its best." In 2002, Phil earned 2nd place at the prestigious National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship held at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. Joleen also competed years later as one of only two women, to enthusiastic listeners.
We look forward to working with you!
Phil and Joleen
We provide our own complete sound systems for small to large gatherings. Our state-of-the-art Bose systems uses little space and disperses our sound so guests can hear evenly all around the venue, allowing easy conversation or listening. We can provide additional mics and stands for guests to speak or a minister. We are very sensitive to appropriate volume and quality of sound throughout the venue. We don't provide our own lighting, but can rent it if need be. We can play without sound reinforcement at very small weddings, or use a battery-powered P.A. when electricity in unavailable.
