Overview
Let’s bring your event to to the next level! We are playing our crowd-pleasing covers in bars, wineries, parties and corporate events across the DMV. As a duo featuring guitar (Matt Shuster), hand percussion (myself) and vocal harmonies, we are far more dynamic than solo guitarists — without the heavy expense or excessive volume of most bands. Our music, which we call ‘strumming & drumming’ blends ‘rock and soul’, along with indie and funky tones. We cover Bob Marley, Talking Heads, Sublime, Rolling Stones, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Dave Matthew’s Band, Grateful Dead, Johnny Cash, U2, Lenny Kravitz and others. We’d love to play at your event and are offering a great ‘value for money’ on price.

Phillipe and Matt provided stellar music at a small get together we hosted recently. Communication was perfect leading up to the event. They set up quickly and got to creating the exact vibe we wanted for our party. Would hire them again in a heartbeat.

The duo was great. They had lots of energy, fun song selection and great interaction with our patrons on a busy Friday night. What to Expect
The audience can expect an energizing, crowd-pleasing show of beloved covers performed in a unique style that blends rock and soul, among other genres. We will play in our signature ‘strumming and drumming’ format that audiences seem to love. The audience will find us personable, interactive, and responsive to the setting/vibe of the event. We will coordinate closely with the event planners to ensure that the performance and set list is well tailored to the event. We will be fully professional, well prepared, punctual and friendly in all interactions. While we are relatively new to GigSalad (and so have few reviews there as yet), we’ve been performing across the DMV for years in breweries, restaurants, wineries and private events. We are setting competitive price targets to ensure that we’re offering the best possible ‘value for money’ on GigSalad as we build up my portfolio on the site. We can’t wait to collaborate with you on your event!
About
‘Strumming and Drumming with Matt and Philippe’ is the DMV’s most dynamic duo. We play across the DMV in bars, restaurants, breweries, wineries, corporate events and house parties. Our style is 'rock and soul' blending elements of both genres and others in our vast songlist of crowd-pleasing covers. Philippe provides vocal harmonies and plays hand percussion (including congas, cajon, talking drum, djembe , shakers) bringing a fun, rhythmic pulse to our shows. He draws on nearly 30 years experience as a percussionist. Matt sings, plays acoustic guitar and bass, having studied and played music since he was 6 years old. In addition to our duo act, We also play together in Washington DC's premier funk rock band Magnelove, which gigs across the DMV region.

No additional requirements—I am fully self sufficient and have my own equipment, PA, speakers etc.

Influences & Inspiration
See our partial set list of covered artists. Our influences come from rock, soul, funk, folk and indie styles. Our 'songbook' includes over 500 songs, including singalongs, anthems and more obscure gems that will get your toes tapping. We blend 'rock and soul' in our music, seeking to blend together these (and other) genres in a unique way. Our ‘strum and drum’ approach combines melodic and rythmic elements, making for a fun aMs engaging performance. We have found that the hand percussion is a kind of ‘special sauce’ that can really create a festive and, if desired, danceable atmosphere. We love to interact and engage with our audiences to bring them into the performance and the fun.
