My father, born in Ozark rising to the rank of Colonel earning a Silver Star I Korea and serving as Commander of Fort Sill in Oklahoma in the early 80’s. Attended 9 high schools in two countries in five states. The first high school in the United States of America was in Montgomery Alabama 1979.

Remembering 1973, Pusan Korea, during the close of Vietnam a hungry child my own age left begging on the streets as a way of life growing up in a battle torn country. Back in Okinawa having my own room with a television my innocence was dispersed, discovering the world did not live as well as I believed. As a blessed 13-year-old turned to poetry as an outlet of self-healing and understanding. In the attendance of nine high schools in five states and two countries, high school was traumatic in the late seventies attending majority white schools to eventually being bused. Returning to America, Montgomery Alabama 1979 as a ninth-grade student found myself in prison ten years later for something I did not do, dwarfing my college graduation disqualifying me from the institution of education sending me on a path of seeking knowledge. Prison as dangerous as it is, "Yay, though I walked through the Valley of Shadow of Death I will fear no EVIL".

Prison was the most exhilarating educational experience I have ever endured. Shackled and transformed into a legal slave as described by the Corporation of Criminal Justice as a felon; crime does PAY, it pays the Government. It is ironic going to Prison to learn how to be FREE. If one allows five walls to incarcerate you, you are already in jail as there are educational, social, religious, economical prisons to name a few. Eighty percent of the inmate population, many I had never spoken to previously, informed me that they wished that I could stay to include the Superintendent, the Chaplin, the Chef, Captain and many Guards expressed that I was a breath of fresh air that invoked smiles: if that make sense and it did
