In this educational comedy show, Patrick Holbert tells stories and jokes about his past addiction and current sobriety. “Punch Line Drunk” outlines his transformative journey from abusing substances to amusing audiences. It’s an informational “TED Talk of Shame” spanning his college years as an overachiever under the influence, his debaucherous career as a TV producer, and how it all came crashing down.
During this presentation, students are asked to consider their own relationships with drugs & alcohol while also learning pragmatic ways to live a fun and productive life without getting wasted. Afterward, audiences are encouraged to participate in an interactive Q&A.
Patrick spoke at one of the many Homecoming events our campus at the University of Nebraska Omaha held for student involvement. His recounting of addiction was presented with humor and showcased the common downward spiral in a relateable way with a strong message of redemption through recovery.
Patrick’s show was absolutely great and everyone who attended loved it – especially those in the recovery community. He’s funny and deep and hits all the right notes!
I brought Patrick out to perform for a group of college students at a comedy show that was held at a college dorm. The students loved him! He was hilarious, witty and best of all inspirational!! He's the total package! I'd definitely recommend him!!!

"Punch Line Drunk" is a one man show that feels like a standup comedy show and a TED Talk at the same time. Your audience will see me on stage delivering a monologue of jokes and stories while also sharing visuals on a PowerPoint. I travel to colleges to perform the main version of the show, but I also tailor it for High Schools and corporate audiences. It's a great fit for wellness events or anything relating to raising addiction awareness. Picture it as one big ice breaker that is fun but opens the door for serious conversation.
The show lasts for an hour and then I'm always happy to stay on stage for a Q&A or moderate a larger, more interactive discussion.
Patrick Holbert is a former TV producer-turned-standup comedian who performs in New York City’s hottest bars and clubs every night. He has appeared on Sirius XM, TruTV, The Travel Channel, and was the host of the internationally syndicated TV show “The Movie Loft” for two years. The New York Times called him the "charming M.C." of the children's variety show he performed in from (phone number hidden)7.
Currently ten years sober, Patrick hilariously uses his past struggles with alcohol as fodder for his brutally honest comedy. With jokes and autobiographical stories, his main goal is to destigmatize challenging topics such as mental health, addiction, and family dysfunction. When he’s not on stage, he also works as a substance abuse counselor and recovery coach. An active member in his sober community, Patrick is married and lives in Brooklyn.
To perform my show, I'll need a handheld mic (wireless is better but cabled is ok), a straight mic stand, a basic wooden stool, a large TV or projection screen, an HDMI connection for my laptop, a table or lectern for the laptop, and a power supply to plug in the laptop. Also, for lighting, it's best to have an area that is lit for me to perform from and then less lighting on the screen so that the audience can see the PowerPoint presentation.
It's always good to have music playing in the room as the audience is sitting and for after the show concludes.
