If Janis Joplin and Norah Jones had a baby–that would be the sound of Redd–coupled with sounds from the Tennessee hills. Redd placed top 40 in the most recent season of American Idol, and in 2021, the band played roughly 200 shows from various bars, coffee houses, and upscale restaurants. The band carries a sound that can be molded to the environment need--though in every environment, they still folk it up.
We are pleased to say we have been fortunate and blessed to have featured Redd many times and have no plans to stop doing more of the same. Here’s just a few reasons why our customers and us absolutely love Redd.
1) Pre Show, during the show and after the show;
Pre show: Redd lights up all social media platforms, story reels, web page, direct emails and personal DM messages to her fan base and community event pages with dates, times, and venue locations outlining short term and midterm shoes. The communications and posts have a very genuine personal touch encouraging follows to come out to the show. Furthermore each post is always supported by beautiful eye catching photography encouraging the eye to stop and look.
Redd shows up early to pre-trip equipment, do sound checks and stage instruments. Once everything is ready Redd makes it a point to mingle among and with customers greeting them with a warm smile, friend hellos and brief but meaningful conversation. Redd knows how to make each person feel welcome and special.
During the show: From the first cord to the very last note Redd captivates the audience when a magical and almost hypnotic like Indy sound. Each song is delivered with paired emotion, energy and passion drawing locking the crowd into the moment. It’s really an amazing experience!!
Post show: Redd always closes with a heart felt “thank you” loaded with sincere gratitude, love and appreciation for the audience and the venue hosts. Once again Redd will mingle among the audience sharing that unforgettable ivory white smile, laughs and salutations of appreciation.
Redd is also discreet whenever it’s time to collect compensation. Class act, no question.
I could literally go on and on with what I want to highlight about Redd but I fear my ramblings and less than gifted writing skills have already failed what my heart wanted to relay.
Final thoughts:
Venue hosts are treated as partners, not clients.
Customers ask for Redd’s return to the stage over and over and over again.
Redd’s shows brings thirsty customers through the front door.
Response from Redd:
Jason, this review literally made me tear up. Geezers is one of our absolute favorite spots, and we will continue to come out and host our album release parties and bring patrons in for you! Thank you for the kind and meaningful words!
We've had Redd & the crew to our brewery a couple of times and they're a hit every single time! They were new to us the first time, but since then, both patrons and employees have requested to have them back. Their set is a great combination of fun covers people can sing along to and some original tunes. Book them. Seriously.
Response from Redd:
Thank you so much for your kind review, Sarah! We plan on continuing to come back to Odd Story out in Chattanooga! Thank you for continuing to book us and supporting our craft!

When Redd performs live, expect to see upright bass, mandolin, and guitar. Redd also typically dresses semi-professional with folk-fashion inspiration--unless the occasion requires formal. Redd offers an eclectic sound of Americana Folk while telling ill fated dad jokes in between tunings.
The band typically performs for three hours with a break--or two, depending--in between. They've performed so long together now that their pee schedules have synced up.
Americana Folk Band from Knoxville, TN
If Janis Joplin and Norah Jones had a baby–that would be the sound of Redd–coupled with sounds from the Tennessee hills.
Redd formed in early 2021 in Knoxville, Tennessee, amidst the pandemic, and have been going strong ever since. In 2021 alone, Redd performed roughly 200 shows. During this time, Redd Daugherty participated on Season 19 of American Idol under her government name Christina Daugherty, and she placed top 40.
The band formed when bassist Will Ross met Redd Daugherty at the Union Place Chris Marshall Open Mic and Jam.
To quote Will, “[Redd] had a sweet, disarming voice that melted the crowd.”
Redd had similar feelings: “I was initially intimidated by Will’s playing, because I thought he was too good to play with me, but we melted our sounds together like butter once we started playing. And then gigging became a breeze.”
Redd and Will were a duo for most of 2021, and their band name was that–lackluster and uncreative–“Redd & Will”–it’s okay, you can laugh. Due to the pandemic and most bars and coffee shops being closed due to safety, Redd and Will got their start with busking on the streets of downtown Knoxville, primarily on Gay Street and Market Square.
When asked about Redd’s singing style, she says, “It took me a few good months to really understand how to sing in an open, outdoor space. I used to sing like a bird–quiet, chirp like–and no one could really hear me unless I was in front of a mic. But once Will took me busking over the summer months, I really learned how to sing with my abdomen. I also took some singing lessons from Cayce Stoops, and that was game changing. I didn’t know I could access a growl or rasp safely until I dove into practice.”
But, Redd and Will knew something was missing from their duo, and that was Gavin Gregg. Gavin’s mandolin play style fills up gaps that Will and Redd struggled to fill during live performances, and he adds complexity where it’s lacking.
Gavin says, “It felt immediately right when I hopped in to join them. We weren’t even able to have a practice together for the first gig.”
Gavin and Will both came from Big Country’s Empty Bottle as well as different bands and projects before forming Redd.
So, what’s on the horizon for Redd, the band?
2022 holds great opportunities. Redd will be in the studio composing their first collaborative album, and they hope to tour in different states and areas–of course dependent on COVID safety and restrictions. They’re excited to bring joy to listeners, meet new people, and grow their audience.
Redd provides their own PA and all equipment unless the venue is larger or requires different equipment. During typical events and gigs, the band uses a PA, bass amp, and two vocal microphones--one for Redd (lead vocals) and one for Gavin (harmonies). The band is flexible based on venue needs.
