I believe everyone is born on purpose with a purpose. Knowing that purpose allows you to lead and operate most effectively. Every leader should first and foremost be willing to learn and grow so that they maximize their ability to lead and so that they are in position to provide the best example of what they hope to produce in those that follow them. Lastly, leadership and submission are wholly intertwined. You can’t lead effectively if you’ve never followed faithfully. For this reason I speak to the fact that leadership starts at the bottom.
We had Alex present at our Youth Apologetics Conference in Charlotte, NC. He did two keynote sessions- one on purpose and one on the question of afterlife (we were doing worldview questions). Alex was very accommodating, and when his speaking sessions were over, he hung out with our students for hours (which I did not paid him for) and even played a round of dodgeball with 170 students! I can't recommend him highly enough! The students LOVED him!

Alex came to speak with us at Taylor University for our chapel service to a student audience of 1300. With only a week of preparation from when we asked him, Alex delivered a powerfully articulate and apologetic message of truth in a time where our campus was experiencing tension and discord. Many students, faculty, and administrators offered their appreciation of Alex's words and time with us on campus. It was not only about his speaking in our chapel but his time spent with students afterwards answering their questions and sharing personal insights in a talk back afterwards. I have heard Alex McElroy speak on a number of occasions, so when I hosted an event for my male mentor group Men of Purpose, Journey to Self-Discovery there was no doubt in my mind who I wanted to speak. I hosted an event with dads at my local elementary school. He not only congratulated the men for the work that they had been doing in the lives of their children, he encouraged fathers and father figures to continue striving for excellence. Men left this event feeling not only inspired, but empowered to make a difference not only in their children lives, but the lives of the children surrounding them.
What I appreciated the most, was his continued connection and commitment to the students and the school. I hosted another event two weeks later and he returned on his own time to speak life into the children of Gresham School of Excellence.

He has worked in and enjoyed tremendous success in the mortgage industry, insurance and financial services, as well as in the arena of energy efficiency. He is also a dedicated husband to his supportive wife of twelve years and a loving father to two beautiful daughters who continue to inspire and push him to be a better man.
