I play things with strings, I hit stuff, and I sing.
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator, I'm available for events of all sizes and styles. I have played hundreds of weddings in the Boston area since moving here in 2010, as well as corporate events, private parties, functions, etc.
Available as a solo violinist, or I have a deep list of connections with the best musicians in Boston. Drop me a line (here, or I'm easy to find elsewhere) and let's make it happen!
Rob was excellent! Super professional, flexible, and creative. Highly recommend.
Rob was booked for a last minute surprise. On short notice he was able to learn song request on the fly and delivered a performance that left my date speechless. I will definitely be booking him again and he will be getting a contact from me for my wedding
P.S. He killed his Beyonce Halo cover!!!
I originally hired Rob to play the violin while I proposed to my now fiance in a park on her birthday. He even offered to bring his camera to take pictures after. Rob was incredibly responsive throughout the whole process and offered some amazing suggestions for which song he'd play and how our interaction in the park could go! Unfortunately because of an impending storm, and my last-minute change of plans (a few hours before lol), I proposed a couple of days sooner without getting a chance to let Rob know or time to reschedule. Even though I missed my chance to hear him live, Rob shared the recording of his Glass Animals cover of Gooey he was going to play at the proposal so I could share it with my fiance as a birthday gift. He even personalized his recording just for us to celebrate our engagement and my fiance's birthday. My fiance and I actually prefer Rob's cover of the song to the original and it's something we will hold onto forever!
Response from Rob Flax:
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words, Jonathan! Congratulations to you both!
Rob was everything we hoped for and more!
Price Range: ~$200-300/hr/musician plus travel
If you hire Rob for his solo violin work, expect to hear a classically trained master instrumentalist, with a degree from the New England Conservatory, capable of playing a wide variety of styles from classical to jazz to bluegrass and more. His extensive experience playing for private events means you'll get quality, elegant entertainment that strikes a perfect balance between lively background music and engaging with the crowd in a dynamic and enertaining way.
Likewise, if you'd like some swingin' jazz violin with a full band sound, Rob can assemble a band of top players in the area to fit your needs and your budget. Trio with guitar and bass is a particular favorite, and often a great balance between full sound and affordable rates.
If you'd like Rob to be more in the foreground, check out his solo looping "one man band" arrangements (search "Photosynthesis" on YouTube). He's a great singer-songwriter, with original music that's sure to be a hit at a house concert.

“He's a master of bringing people together and making art out of nothing in a short amount of time.” —Katy Boc, South Shore Living
