Dubbed "Baltimore finest" for New Orleans Trad Jazz, by the Citypaper, we have become a Baltimore/DC area staple. Sac Au Lait plays traditional /swing/New Orleans music from the 20's and 30's with a modern attitude. We bring plenty of youthful energy, mixing vocal tunes with instrumental tunes, highlighting clarinet, trumpet, trombone, banjo, upright bass, and drums. The band has 18 years of experience accompanying dancers. We also play weddings, fundraisers, bars, and even on the street, up and down the East Coast.
This hard-working group was hired to do a series of covid-compliant "Intersection concerts" to bring small groups of folks together by stopping at pre-set intersections to entertain. Each set was well executed, drew great crowds and gave everyone a real "up". Hire these hard-working guys, they really gave everyone a smile on their faces and had them tapping their feet and dancing in the streets!
Everyone asked me how I got such an awesome band for my Mardi Gras party! I'm so glad I found them on gig salad!
We had Sac au Lait play at our wedding reception, and they were a highlight of the night. Our guests loved them, and they were so fun to dance to. You could dance swing, or you could get down to whatever style you want, because of their great blend of swing, jazz, and a more modern, hip sound. They were exactly what we were looking for: great MC, a full, rich sound, and really lively and fun! We loved all the different instruments, especially the banjo! Very unique and classy band. They were also very accommodating and played us some awesome Jewish songs at our last-minute request. The MC was really great at going with the flow. Loved them!!!

You did it! You’ve found the band that can make your special day stand out as a truly spirited event for all ages! After fifteen years of performing up and down the East Coast, Sac Au Lait is experienced in appealing to a wide spectrum of audiences. We started off playing bars, where we learned how get the party going. Then we added swing dances to our calendar, where we honed our skills of getting folks moving. We got into this music to have fun, let us bring that energy to your celebration!
We’ve played wedding ceremonies and receptions in the Baltimore/DC area’s best spots to get hitched: the Evergreen Mansion, Peabody Library, the beautiful Tulip Garden in Guilford, the great ballrooms at The Belvedere in Mount Vernon, Chase Court, Marriott Waterfront Hotel, Annapolis Yacht Club, Swan Harbor Farm in Havre de Grace, and the Washington Golf and Country Club… just to name a few!
We can be a part of any or all of the parts of your special day and can arrange to suit just about any budget – no matter intimate or grand an event you have planned. We supply and run all of our own sound equipment. Contact us to tell us about your plans and how we can help.
Ceremony– if you are looking for some trad jazz wedding music, we can offer some favorites that are appropriate for processions.
Parading – an option that really separates Sac Au Lait from the rest is our ability to march. This is a popular option either as a transition from the ceremony to cocktail hour or cocktail hour to reception. We’ve also paraded from the venue to the after party. A New Orleans style Second Line through the streets with the newly-weds leading the pack is an unforgettable time.
Cocktail Hour – as the newly-weds make their entrance, during hors d’ouevres, or the early stages of the reception, the band can go acoustic, be mobile, play outdoors, ‘street style’, etc.
Dinner – the band has a set of light music for during dinner. We come with a PA system, which can be used to make toasts and announcements. In addition, a DJ service is provided during dinner to keep the party going during the moments when you don’t want live music.
Dancing – of course after dinner and the formalities, if you are looking to get everyone straight onto the dance floor then you need a serious band. This is where Sac Au Lait earned their reputation – playing music for the dance floor!
Dubbed “Baltimore’s Finest in Dixieland” by City Paper, we have been playing melodies from a bygone era in the Baltimore/DC area for over 18 years. The music we play can be classified as Dixieland, New Orleans, or Traditional Jazz. We bring plenty of youthful energy, mixing vocal and instrumental tunes to get people happy and dancing! The appeal of this music from the ’20s and ’30s is broad, and that has allowed us to perform in all types of venues for a variety of audiences.
While making music over the past 15+ years we’ve become a Baltimore institution. After a more than 8-year run of monthly gigs in the Station North Arts District, you can now party with us at the 13.5% Wine Bar on The Avenue in Hampden on the last Friday of every month. Get the most up-to-date information on other public gigs on our Facebook page or contact us to find out how you can have Sac Au Lait participate in your event.
All we need is access to power, lighting and shade/rain cover. We can provide our own PA system for most occasions. Larger venues, open air spaces and acoustics will all need to be considered to assess any extra equipment needs.
