Sadie Elisseou, MD is an internationally recognized expert in the field of trauma-informed care (TIC), a strategic, organizational framework for supporting survivors of various forms of trauma.
She has developed a novel framework for trauma-informed wellness, with practical applications for organizational well-being. In this time of crisis, Dr. Elisseou leads trainings on workforce resilience for large corporations, including Procter & Gamble. She also works with law firms as an expert witness for trauma-related cases and to help them build trauma-informed legal practices.
Dr. Elisseou is a practicing physician in the VA healthcare system and an instructor at Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. Her award-winning curriculum on ‘trauma-informed physical examination’ is now being taught at medical schools and healthcare institutions across the U.S. Early in the pandemic, Dr. Elisseou worked with colleagues to develop a novel toolkit on trauma-informed telehealth care. Her most recent published curriculum is about trauma-informed peer physical examination.
Over the past several years, Dr. Elisseou has spoken about TIC for audiences across the globe such as the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), Americares, and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Dr. Elisseou is the co-founder of the National Veterans Health Association TIC Collaborative and the Boston University School of Medicine TIC Task Force. She is a a member of the Trauma Informed Health Care, Education and Research (TIHCHER) collaborative and the Harvard Medical School TIC Steering Committee.
