Sarah and the Bliss Aerial crew have worked with our event, Funk in the Forest, for the past 2 years, as well as collaborating with my band, DTW, on other events not organized by us. They are a self contained operation in terms of setup and lighting and have always been on time and professional, and Sarah has good communication on the planning side. They have been able to choreograph specific routines with songs as well as improvise, even with other bands they've never heard before. Sarah is a professional aerialist based out of the West Coast (Oregon & California) and Hawai'i (The Big Island & Maui). Her strength-based background began with rock climbing, yoga, team sports & pulling lines on catamarans. So how does someone with 0 dance training or gymnastic back ground get into aerial?! This unique journey began in 2013 she witnessed an awe-inspiring performance at the 2012 Burning Man festival. Within a few years of training, she was on a path to turn her passion into her profession. She infuses her work with a zest for musicality & storytelling, an abundance of strength, and mesmerizing grace to share her love for this type of creative athleticism.
Sarah moved from the Big Island of Hawai'i to Portland, OR. in 2019 to complete a training program with A-WOL Dance & to ultimately pursue a performance and teaching career not very accessible on a rural island. She specializes in silks, lyra, duo lyra, rope & dance trapeze. In more intimate realms, she is the the Founder of Explore Aerial Retreat and runs week long retreats in inspiring locations around the world that focus on aerial technique and flow, multiple types of yoga, and healing through self reflection and re-inspiring one's life.
As a performer, her clients range from corporate to creative; from MTV productions to Burning Man Festival. No matter what, she brings a powerful and memorable presence to all of her audiences. When she isn't drilling a new skill or creating a new act, she teaches group and private lessons out of many spaces in the Portland Metro, her native state California, Maui or Mexico and considers herself a true "Snowbird." She is most happy traveling to teach various workshops or perform in sunny locations!
While Sarah has big dreams for the future of merging her passion of psychology, social work and healing with aerial arts, she also has a goal to raise the value of the circus & performance arts for the community to thrive especially after the pandemic.
