My wife, Tami, and I provide full video production services - from script to screen - as well as any isolated step of the process along the way. Tami and I first work with our clients to varying degrees to come up with a plan for shooting and if any script writing needs to take place, which we both come from a writing background before entering the video production industry.
On set, we provide up to three of our own full HD broadcast quality Sony cameras (with one having 4K capability). We have professional audio gear including Sennheiser wireless microphone kits and conference table mics. We have an array of lighting for both run and gun B-roll work as well as for studio quality interview and scene lighting. In addition, we have a Mavic Pro drone to film full HD aerial footage if it applies to the project.
Aside from the equipment on set, Tami and I do our best to make those both on and off camera feel comfortable. Tami usually takes on the role of directing, producing, and 2nd camera while I do main camera, audio, and lighting.
Once the footage from the shoot has been gathered, we'll get started on post-production and send cuts of the final video to the client until we get it to their absolute satisfaction - which usually takes 1-3 cuts.
My wife Tami Shaffer and I (Dan Shaffer) have been working together in the video production world since 2009 - with my freelance video career spanning back to 2001. We have both won several awards for our work throughout the years as we have together taken on feature length documentaries, worked on reality TV shows, produced numerous TV commercials and promotional videos each year as well as corporate videos and live event videos.
With Tami's stunning artistic sensibilities and my sense of cinematic storytelling, we have become the perfect merger in making even the most standard corporate or promotional video projects moving and memorable.
My first video production job came on Sept. 11, 2001 while I was mentoring with a video production company in Harrisburg, PA. My mentor had years of news experience and got a call from CBS to travel out to the Flight 93 crash. With me being the only other one in the office at the time, I went with him as Audio Engineer and witnessed the tragedy of the crash site firsthand, which is something I will never forget. After that, I picked up video editing and edited award winning international car show videos for the same mentor I was with on Sept. 11.
A few years later, I became a freelancer working on various projects and a handful of independent films. After meeting Tami in 2008, we decided to join forces and create Shaffer Films as a full service video production company. Our first project together was covering the Pan African Inaugural Ball on Jan. 20, 2009. From there, we grew together working on the hit reality TV show "Restaurant Impossible" and then gaining our own corporate clients as the years went by which have included Harley Davidson, Rite Aid, Jack Daniels, Hershey Foods, the National Military Fish and Wildlife Association, the Smithsonian Institute, The New Yorker Magazine for the White House Correspondents Jam, the PA Medical Society, ARS, and more. Along the way, we worked on documentaries that included a biographical doc on famed UFC MMA fighter Eddie Alvarez and two historical documentaries on William Penn which took us to filming locations in the UK and Ireland.
Looking forward, we want to expand our client list and start doing some of our own labor of love projects which include short films, documentaries, and even feature films that are waiting to be produced.
In addition to video production, we also have owned and operated an organic bath and body retail shop in Carlisle, PA called No Common Scents since 2015 which has won its own slew of local shopping awards such as Simply the Best from Harrisburg Magazine and Best in Cumberland County. As part of that venture, we also began a flower farm in 2020 on an old commercial apple orchard and are selling organic flower bouquets designed by Tami at our store.
The future is looking bright as we forge ahead with video and the rest of our businesses into 2023 and beyond...
