Shawn Harper and his 5 siblings were raised by their single mother in Columbus, Ohio. Greeted daily by the hard knock life, he learned to survive the trenches of a rough, impoverished neighborhood. However, Shawn's environment was not the only challenge he faced as a child. He also lived with four learning disabilities, including dyslexia and a speech impediment.

Teachers sneered at Shawn, blatantly telling him that he was not "college material". Despite suffering from his learning challenges, his debilitating stutter and a lack of support at school, Shawn was determined to find his place and began playing football in high school. During his senior year, the coach at North Iowa Area Community College identified him as an athlete with potential. He graduated 154th (last) in his class and did not receive any scholarships to assist him financially. There were no guarantees for Shawn, but just having an opportunity at a junior college was all he needed to change his entire life forever!

Shawn's dream to play in the NFL surfaced during his second year at NIACC. For inspiration, he placed the three letters, "NFL", above his headboard and continued to apply himself to his studies and to his game. Shawn did so well that he was recruited to Indiana University, a major Division I University where he began a great career. Shawn would go on to accomplish his dream and was drafted to the NFL! His dream had finally became his reality! Shawn played in the league for seven years, primarily for the Indianapolis Colts, but also enjoyed a few seasons in NFL Europe (Amsterdam and Germany).

After retiring from the NFL, Shawn turned his pursuits and his passions to business and speaking. He is currently the President/CEO of American Services and Protection in Columbus, Ohio. He used his degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Indiana University to continue the family business of providing armed and unarmed security guard services.

Over the past 25+ years, Shawn has sharpened and creatively applied his public-speaking skills to become an internationally-acclaimed motivational speaker who shares the wisdom he gained on his life journey from an impoverished child to a successful business owner, speaker and author. Shawn uses his "no excuses" philosophy to motivate millions of students, executives, CEOs and salespeople across the country. Shawn truly is living proof that "Your greatest set-back is a set-up for a comeback!"
