We adjust our set list to coincide with the event, if its people watching and relaxing we play a wide variety of popular songs. If the expectation is dancing then we play long sets of four count high energy songs that people can dance to multiple songs.
We have the luxury of a true male and female lead vocalist so we are able to pull lots of songs from both genders and have songs that are duet....example "Who Says You Can't Go Home" (Bon Jovi and Jennifer Nettles)
Engagement from the stage to the audience so a good time is had by all!
Smokin’ Gunn is a cover band that performs Classic Rock, Country and Alternative Rock tunes from Waxhaw, NC. The group formed five years ago with the purpose to feed the passion for live music performing in each of us.
It’s true that a the whole is more than the sum of its part and that’s what makes Smokin’ Gunn a great band. Here is a brief bio of each member:
Marcie Padgett – Lead Vocals/Tambourine – Marcie is from Monroe, NC and attended Liberty University where she was a member of The Sounds of Liberty. She is a successful business owner and resides in Waxhaw, NC. Her major influences in music has been “classic” country – Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline and modern country artist like Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town and Faith Hill.
Teal Renzema – Lead Vocals/Bass/Acoustic Guitar – Teal grew in in Cali where he was involved in the music scene during the nineties, fate landed in in NC and our band. He loves alternative music and is a child of the nineties which leads to some of his influences – Pearl Jam, Counting Crowes and Radiohead from that area. He loves classic rock and is starting to dig into bluesy country artist like Chris Stapleton and Travis Tritt.
Kevin Fox – Lead Electric Guitar – Kevin is from Raleigh NC and grew up playing guitar in original and cover bands. He is one of the best lead guitar players in the area and can play the honky tonk as well as complicated rock and roll riffs. His major influences growing were Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Steve Miller Band and countless ax carriers in rock and roll.
Brad Oakley – Drums/Cajon – Brad hails from South Hill, VA and ended up coming to NC to go to Catawba College. In high school and college he played with bands but dropped music to start a career. Fast forward a decade or two and he is rocking and rolling with Smokin’ Gunn! He is the tempo Nazi and sets the tone for some of our biggest songs. He is a hard rock guy whose influences have been Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Guns and Roses.
Dennis Padgett – Rhythm Electric/Acoustic Guitar – Dennis is one of the founding members of the band and has a diverse musical back group from trumpet to guitar. He grew up in Ronda, NC and attended the University of NC Charlotte. He also does marketing and production of the band. His musical influences are Tom Petty, Johnny Cash and AC/DC.
Deane Priest – Keys/Harmonica/Mandolin – Deane is from HotLanta. GA and is the “B” side guy! He has a diverse taste in music that ranges from folk to hard rock. He attended the University of Florida and has played off and on his entire life. His musical influences are John Lee Hooker, Trampled by Turtles and Hank Williams Jr.
We also believe in giving back and do several fundraising and charity events each year for the community. The group is experienced, professional and dependable and really to share our gift of music with you.
