My shows are a mixture of '70s pop culture and music trivia at the same time. I mix in enough popular selections to keep it interesting for everyone, allowing me to explore deeper cuts from artists' catalogs and songs you just haven't heard in a while. I love the storytellers of the '70s like Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, and John Denver and I also really dig some of the one-hit wonders of the era like Me and You and a Dog Named Boo by Lobo, Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks, Lonely Boy by Andrew Gold, etc.
I am the founder of two bands and also have several Duo/Trio/Acoustic band acts. I am a full-time performer and I am good at what I do.

I am a storyteller. My shows can vary between 'background music' to a knee-slapping good time depending on the needs of your venue. I tend to focus on familiar songs and stories that may not be the 'hit song,' but will trigger memories of the era. I've been playing music for 45 years and am tickled that I've been able to do it for a living. I'm 56 y/o and grew up in the back seat of a '72 Ford Pinto with an AM radio...it left a mark. My shows and songs reflect this. I try hard to find songs that trigger memories, in the audience, beyond the mainstream offerings considered to be standards. 'Man, I haven't heard that in 30 years!' is a common remark, while I like to announce 'These are the songs you wish you would've requested!' I also perform a full tribute to Harry Chapin and have a well rounded list of Grateful Dead songs.
Smokin' Joe has been a part of the St Augustine, Florida music scene for over 14 years. Performing an average of 340 gigs per year, Joe has anchored his legacy in the nation's oldest city. Performing under multiple guises, Joe's offerings range from background music to full-on musical assault, depending on the venue's needs. Joe is a founding member of the Grateful Dead tribute band, Not Quite Dead and, Dave's Not Here, a new jam band project that covers artists like the Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule, The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews, and other flavors.
A genuine love of storytelling and complicated arrangements became the basis of what he plays today. Where most performers shy away from lengthy or complicated passages, Joe embraces them with songs like 'Taxi,' 'A Better Place to Be,' 'Terrapin Station,' and "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,' to name a few. He soon discovered he could play any song he wanted to, as long as it was presented properly, with conviction and emotion.
I generally carry my own rig(s) and have 4 different levels based on venue size or application. I use Bose loudspeakers and Bose personal PA equipment.

My solo performances feature the Grateful Dead, Harry Chapin. John Prine, Moody Blues, Dave Matthews, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver -- My solo shows also a bunch of one-hit wonders from the 70s that were radio friendly. My bands are strongly improvisational. Not Quite Dead has been playing in the NE Florida region for 10 years and I have several other bands mixing in influences from Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic, Phish, and the Allman Brothers.
I only play songs I love or that have triggered personal memories for me. I dig deep into the songs of the '70s, stuff I heard on the radio as a kid. They weren't always the most popular songs but they resonated with me.
