The Smugtown Stompers has been active in the upstate New York area since 1958. They have been performing music from the early jazz age in festivals, town parks, gazebos, swing dance parties, fund raisers, weddings, birthday gigs, and even wakes for jazz lovers. We have been performing on the Mary Jemison canal boat for the Rochester International Jazz Festival for the last 6 years.
We have demonstrated early jazz for the Eastman School of Music jazz history class, at various high schools and have been mentoring young musicians in the art. If you're planning an event for a special person, group or festival, give us a call. We'll make sure you have a good time.
We ain't just whistling dixie!

Dancing to dixieland is fun and we play for swing clubs.
Songs we play are from the golden age of American music and people learn and recall the songs.
We can bring special attention to the guest of honor with special songs and an interview on stage.
We can play sets with many sing along pieces.
We have the traditional New Orleans' lineup: trumpet, clarinet/sax, trombone, piano, banjo, tuba, drums and if desired, a great femaie vocalist. We can provide a concert with description or just music for dancing, listening, and enjoying. During summer concert situations we provide an opportunity for folks to sing along with old favorites. Our experience includes gazebo concerts in many town parks, weddings, wakes, anniversary parties. We have played at jazz festivals and for jazz societies, including radio broadcasts from the NYS Fair. We play in restaurants and party houses. We have our own PA system and piano for a nominal fee.
We have played on the Mary Jemison canal boat out of Rochester, NY during the Rochester International Jazz Festival for the last 6 years and will do so again in June.
