Songs for Ceilidh was not formed to be a “cover band”. Their interpretation of traditional Celtic classics owes more to Cape Breton influences then it does to traditional Irish. While respecting the original music, their arrangements reflect a modern sensibility and desire to ‘keep it moving’! Their growing body of original works reflects this same balance of tradition and innovation.
While they bring a solid repertoire of traditional Celtic classics, don’t expect to hear Danny Boy or Irish Eyes! Lively and fun is their emphasis. Upbeat classics and originals provide a sound that appeals to all, from families in the park on a summer evening to rowdy, late night bar patrons. “We’re looking for people to enjoy themselves and their surroundings. That’s what it’s all about”.
Created in 2006, Songs For Ceilidh is a three piece Celtic trio that combines vocals, fiddle, guitar, percussion, (djembe, bongo, bodhran), tin whistle and even some didgeridoo into an upbeat fun filled show. With over 120 songs, (and growing), we cover many of the Irish traditionals, "Whisky in the Jar", "Black Velvet Band", "Spancil Hill", "Star of the County Down", as well as traditionals from Scotland and Atlantic Canada. On top of this we have our own originals which are available on CD and on Itunes and we are actively recording more in the studio. Songs For Ceilidh has performed on large stages with nationally touring acts as well as smaller community shows, bars, small house parties and weddings. Being a corporation you can expect 100% professionalism in everything Songs For Ceilidh does. If you are looking to have a Celtic band that will keep peoples feet tapping, hands clapping and heads bopping, Songs For Ceilidh is it.
Songs For Ceilidh has and owns all their own equipment to do a venue of up to 500 to 1000 people. They also have all their own lighting for added effects.
Our music is what it is. We will take some requests but when hiring Songs For Ceilidh you get what we are. Upon request we can discuss our set list and look to tailor it to what you might be looking for.
