Overview
My name is Concetta Abbate. I'm a classically trained violinist who crosses genres of folk, jazz and popular music to create unique musical experiences for a variety of events! I'm also a trained singer and hold a unique skill of both singing and playing violin. I have more than a decade of experience performing in the NYC Metro region as a soloist at venues such as American Folk Art Museum, Rubin Art Museum and Sheen Center for Performing Arts. As a composer and arranger I create elegant arrangements of popular songs that are tailored to your musical preferences. I also work with a variety of musicians to create larger chamber ensembles for events.

I needed a violin/viola player to record the string parts on several of my recordings. I asked around on Facebook and I was recommended Concetta by several local musicians. She was such a pleasure to work with and came to the session on time and prepared. Concetta Abbate brings a unique grace of elegance and intelligence to any event. She combines contemporary classical music with relatable, every day, sounds of folk, popular music and jazz to create an ambience of like no other. She is warm and friendly to work with and open to big, creative ideas.
Her presence, as a performer, is magnetic. She creates an intimate and reflexive connection with her audience. She combines visual aesthetic through her dress and movement to draw the audience in. Perfect for art galleries, museums, weddings, contemplative memorial services and other events.
She works with a variety of stings and woodwind players to create larger chamber ensembles for grand scale events.
About
Concetta Abbate is a classically trained violinist turned improviser and composer. (link hidden) describes her original performances as a mix of “Violin and delicate vocals that float between the worlds of Modern Classical, Neo-Folk, and poignant and poetic verse”
She has performed with ensembles in NY including PARK Quartet, Femmelody Chamber Music Collective and the Creative Music Orchestra. Her studio albums of her original music spanning genres of New Classical, Jazz, Experimental and Folk.
Her Dance and Film scores have been performed at Lincoln Center, the Fashion Film Festival of Milan as well as Theatre for the New City. Notable music composition residencies include TAKT Gallery in Berlin (2016 and 2018) as well as the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva Island, Florida (2019).
In 2014 she founded a Music Ed program called Teacup Music which provides sliding-scale music lessons to students in Brooklyn. Her teaching work has received funding from Brooklyn Arts Council, The Roothbert Fund and the Charles Mayer Foundation.
Concetta is a voting member of the Grammys Recording Academy. She holds degrees in Music, Education and Cultural Studies from Smith College (BA) as well as Columbia University (MA).
Additional Booking Notes
Abbate may perform both amplified as well as acoustic. She carries a wireless microphone for the violin so that she may move around the venue during performance.
