I am a professional story teller. While remaining professional at all times, I have no trouble getting smiles and laughs from children, guests and the bridal party. I have a list of shots that are available to view prior to the wedding, so if there are any that the bride or groom would like to add it cam be done. I pride myself on being unobtrusive, remaining discrete through out the ceremony and reception. I am not there to be a part of the wedding, I am there to capture the unfolding events through out the day. I always have a "game plan" but I am very easy to work with and will be more than happy to "wing it" if that is what is wanted.
Humbly at your service. I am Kat Stathes, a Former United States Marine Combat Videographer & Photographer. After getting out of the service I continued my job in the civilian world. Iraq, Greece, Italy and many states in the U.S; the places that I have traveled to gain experience and knowledge I have today as a photographer. I have taken my military training and modified it in order to preform at a high quality civilian level. As a combat camera woman, I was trained to be discrete, silent, observational, but to remain professional at all times. I was trained to tell a story through my imagery, process the imagery upon returning to base, and have a finished product ready with a maximum time frame of one week.
I was given a mission to document, and my missions have turned to weddings. All these qualities transfer nicely, as I pride my self on being unobtrusive at weddings. I am small and compact, making it easy to maneuver around the property with out being noticed. I am not much of a sales person, but one thing I do feel strongly about is the engaged couple to have a bond with their photographer, and feel at ease with the photographers presence. The bride and wedding planner should not be worried about the photographer: what shots they will get, how long they will be there, where they will wander in order to get specific shots, what they are wearing and so on. I prefer to have two sit downs with the couple ( if not a sit down, a phone call,) first to get to know each other and create a good business relationship and the second closer to the date of the wedding to discuss a shot list, times and places, attire and anything else the bride feels she wants to discuss. If she wants classic and traditional photos, it will be my pleasure. If she wants candid and abstract photos, I will be more than happy to oblige. If she wants a photo of Uncle Robert's toupee flapping in the wind because it is a family joke, no problem.
After years of shooting weddings I feel compelled to inform my brides of some of the attributes I think to be essential; often times over looked because of the humble and jumble of planning a wedding. I will be wearing all black as not to obscure the planned color theme. I also can dress according to the color scheme if requested, I know there are some brides ( or grooms) who need to have everything correct to the finest details which is why I offer this. I am not a photographer for the money, I am a photographer because I love capturing a single moment in time. ( Sounds cliche, but it is true) I never step foot in front of the guests during the ceremony, there is a line drawn and there is no need for the photographer to be seen when the sole focus of the ceremony should be on the bride and groom. If I get the "OK" to go past the line then I will with no problem, however I will never do it with out proper acknowledgement from the BRIDE AND GROOM, not Aunt Mcnosey pants. Please feel comfortable to contact me at any time, I will not bother you or try to sell anything to you like a used car sales man.
As for the pricing, I have created "package deals" to make planning easier for the bride and or planner. I know there are some things that are wanted by some and not wanted by others, so I am always available to make adjustments. I offer hourly all the way to daily services ( for the weddings that are further away.) Like I said earlier, I am not a business person, but I am dedicated to my camera, and get absolute gratification out of working with couples, helping them create the imagery that will turn in to a memory years down the road.
I will bring all my equipment but will not be wearing it on my body at all times. I find this to obstruct my ability to move freely and more often than not the bags of lenses and batteries clanging around makes unneeded noise.
Basic shot list consists of the Ceremony, bridal party portraits and 2 hrs at the reception. I am available for longer or shorter periods. I have a list of specific shots ( angles, sizes, locations) that is available if the bride or groom is having a hard time coming up with what they are looking for.
I do not have any specific influences or styles. I love documenting life. I am also an avid equestrian, having ridden horses for 14 years. They are often the center of my work, almost nothing compares the the grace and beauty of a horse. Working with horses has also sharpened my skills at capturing a quick moving subject with out motion blur.
Camera, lenses, flash, tripod. Me.
