Steel Betty was absolutely fantastic at our company holiday party! They played a medley of country, blues, folk, and christmas tunes that everyone absolutely loved! We will definitely be booking them for future events if they will have us lol

I've booked Steel Betty for a few events now and they do not miss! One was a larger 200-250 person food and wine festival and their vibe added such a special element to our event. They were so easy to work with and was open to everything! The second was a smaller 40 person business dinner and they were super flexible with timing and engaged well with our guests. Will always keep them in mind for future events!

David & Beth's (Steel Betty) music-making was the perfect acoustic complement to our gallery's annual and full-house fundraising event. Not only were their talent and tunes well-received by the art-viewing guests, but also they accommodated moving from outside to inside during suddenly-iffy weather and kept pace with the crowd. Truly they were the most delightful duo to hear and watch perform and again, they and their bluegrass-vibe music (which I requested/wanted for a Fall-feeling theme) delivered great acoustic and visual ambiance. I would 100% rebook Steel Betty for another event - the duo at my home for a more intimate event or adding additional musicians for a larger all-outdoor party - I really hope to do so!

Response from Steel Betty:
Thank you so much for having us Frances!! Congrats on a beautiful event and a great turnout!! :)
We loved working with Steel Betty! They played our cocktail hour, dinner, first dance, and father/daughter/mother/son dance. They sounded absolutely amazing and made our wedding day so special! So many of our guests mentioned how much they loved the band. David was very professional and communicative, and just a joy to work with. We cannot recommend Steel Betty highly enough for your wedding or any other celebration!!

💜💜💜💜. Thank you Stephanie!! Y'all crushed it!!
These guys were professional, highly talented musicians that brought so much life and fun to my dream wedding with their tunes. They worked with me to play the perfect ceremony song cover that I wanted, and just made the whole vibe perfect! We got so many compliments on the band from our guests. I highly recommend these guys for any event! Incredible musicians.

Looooveeee!!!!! Beautiful ceremony! You guys did great.
What a fun and chill evening! Great harmonies. Great energy So enjoyed the music and getting to know the band as well.
Folk Band
Steel Betty played at a backyard get-together of ours with several families. They were friendly, professional and extremely talented, and everyone had a great time. Catch them now before they make it big!
Folk Band
I heard Steel Betty play at a neighbors house for a socially distanced front yard concert and was blown away by their talent. I love bluegrass and it seemed the perfect setting to listen to great music during this interminable covid ordeal.
David, Madeline, Micah and Julian are first-rate musicians and damn fun to be around.
Hire them and help keep Austin music and musicians alive and well.

These guys were terrific for our dinner. Super fun, and VERY talented. We loved having them.

Steel Betty played during the cocktail hour at our wedding, and our only regret is not hiring them for longer! They were great and we received lots of compliments on their music. I hope to have another occasion to hire them for a party because we enjoyed it so much! David was really easy to work with throughhtout the planning process

I hired Steel Betty for a corporate networking function my firm hosted for 150+ of our clients during a conference held in Austin, Texas. Since we are based in Atlanta, I had to handle all event bookings remotely, which is always a little scary. That said, I got a good sense through my early communication with band manager, David, that in addition to having a great sound, Steel Betty was a reliable and professional group, and this put me at ease.
The week and day of the event, they certainly delivered. When I arrived at the event (early), they were already there, set up, and ready to go. They played great music and our guests really enjoyed them. We received a lot of great compliments on the event!

Steel Betty was exactly what we were looking for. They were so good, everyone really enjoyed them at our event. The band was super nice. They were great! Highly recommend Steel Betty.

I booked Steel Betty for my wedding, site unseen. I am so glad I did - they delivered on everything and more. Truly professional throughout, great communication, and easy to work with. They brought 4 musicians to my outdoor wedding and played processional/recessional music for the ceremony and three sets for the cocktail hour/reception (bluegrass/americana). The music was amazing and entertained all ages (mostly 30's - 60's, and kids.) My only regret it that I didn't get to hear more. Everyone commented on how fantastic this band is! They even learned a couple new songs for us, which was really special for the family. I would absolutely hire Steel Betty again and recommend them to anyone. We will definitely be making the trek from San Antonio to their home base in Austin, to hear them play some more!

Steel Betty were a joy to work with for our rehearsal dinner on a farm. They fit the theme perfectly, playing traditionals and modern songs all the guests could sing along too. They were gracious when I asked them to practice and sing with them a surprise song for my now-husband - This Must Be the Place by the Talking Heads. I practiced with them one weekend before the wedding; they pulled the song together in no time and made the process so fun! The night of the rehearsal they showed up and set up in no time. Everything sounded great - their talent is palpable. After the wedding my husband and I received the sweetest note from the band congratulating us on our marriage that made us tear up a bit. I cannot recommend Steel Betty highly enough for any event - particularly a wedding or rehearsal dinner.
We had Steel Betty at a Chili Cook-Off with guests of all ages. They were quite talented and so much fun to listen to. They arrived early to set up and were ready to go on time. All of our guests enjoyed the evening with their music.

From my very first contact with David I knew Steel Betty was going to be special. My daughter had done a bit of research for bluegrass style bands for an old timey wedding venue at Star Hill Ranch in Bee Cave. There was a lot of planning and communications, and David was always friendly, responsive, adaptable, and creative. They arrived early for setup and performed a lovely quiet acoustic set during the small chapel service, followed by increasingly upbeat amplified sets throughout the reception (alternating with pre-recorded dance sets). Everyone said, "who are these guys?...they are simply wonderful!" They just adapted so well to the audience and clearly demonstrated excellent musical talent, enthusiasm and confidence. We all felt like they were just part of our family since they seemed to be having so much fun as well. They also hung around during clean up and never seemed to be in any rush. Now we can't wait to hear them again later this summer or fall at one of their public shows, which I am sure will also be equally great.

These guys were fantastic. They are skilled musicians who were also friendly and flexible when the skies decided to open up on our outdoor venue. They moved from the yard, to the garage, then to an upstairs balcony, and did it all with smiles on their faces. Party-goers were so impressed and the guests of honor were touched to have great live bluegrass music at their 50th wedding anniversary party!

Response from Steel Betty:
Thanks so much for everything Dana! Hope to make it out there again!

Recently I had to plan a "corporate/after work event" for customers at a conference in Austin. I thought since Austin is the City of Music, I should look for a local Austin band to give it a nice local flavor for mostly out-of-town guests. I was coming in from out of town (Montreal) and did not know the local Austin music scene, and so on the recommendation from Montreal Folk Fest co-founder, Carl Comeau, I checked out Gig Salad to help me. There were many great choices, but one band stood out from the rest: STEEL BETTY. I immediately clicked with their fun and relaxed vibe, and thought they would be perfect for our event. I got a quick response back from band leader, Dave, and we discussed what our needs were and how they could answer them. We wanted a band that was lively and entertaining, but was able to adjust with people at the event carrying on conversations etc. They understood what was needed and played two perfect sets. In all things leading up to, and at the event, Dave and his band were very friendly and very professional. All paperwork/contracts arrived and were returned promptly, items were adjusted as necessary and documents were quickly returned. Communication was excellent and prompt at all times and I quickly had full confidence in Dave and his band. This is very important/critical to have when you're coming in from out of town for an important event for key customers and you've hired a band you've never dealt with! They arrived in plenty of time to set up and were ready to go when we were. Their music was exceptional and very much enjoyed by all at the event. They really seemed to be enjoying playing together for this event, and this was evident in their performance. I noticed this and had a few attendees mention it as well. That evening and the next day, I had many customers/attendees come up to me to tell me how much they'd enjoyed the event, and how great the music was (and where did I find them etc....Gig Salad of course!) We were part of a conference where other competitors (to our company) were also hosting events that evening and MANY customers told us that ours was by far the best. I know for a fact that STEEL BETTY played a big part in that.
Thank you to Dave, and all the rest of the crew. We hope to see you up in Montreal someday soon! À bientôt!!

Steel Betty played the music for us during my son's rehearsal dinner at The Addison Grove on March 24, 2017!! They were the icing on the cake! So easy to work with and they provided us with the perfect feel for our outdoor dinner before the big day!! Highly recommend them!!

Bluegrass Band
Approached with little time to prepare for a benefit show hosted by Austin, Texas-area nonprofit East of Cameron, Steel Betty generously offered their time and their music to the organization.
In spite of short notice, the band were well-prepared and maintained effective communication with organizers before the event to generate maximum publicity and ensure smooth proceeding during the event.
Their music is excellent--technically expert, but also flexible; impressive and fun, yet also vulnerable. They're a really amazing band composed of really amazing people. They brought out a crowd. It was an awesome show, and we're so grateful for their music and their support.
Thanks again, y'all!

About
The Boys and Girl in the Band
Singer, guitarist, and band cheerleader David McD was born and raised in Austin Texas. In addition to fronting Steel Betty, he has a quirky collage rock project and loves golden brown foods, unicycling, storytelling, and playing with Steel Betty. He can also play the banjo.
Madeleine Froncek is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist living in Austin, TX. In addition to playing in Steel Betty, Maddy plays bass and banjo in her gypsy, punk, funk, pop band, Cactopus, and in her Brazilian leaning band, Ley Line. She is currently working on completing studio albums with both groups. Maddy climbs rocks, bikes mountains, and is a semi-pro hand whistler.
Micah Motenko is a singer, songwriter, pianist, saxophonist, clarinetist, and mandolin player from Boston, MA. He is a master chef and master vocalist. He has toured with Whiskey Shivers and lived to tell about it. Check out his soul stylings in his soul funk band, Motenko.
Additional Booking Notes
All we need is somewhere to plug in a power strip! We work with a simple, old time bluegrass set up, using just a couple high quality mics to capture our warm acoustic sound. Our dobro player is also a professional live sound man, so you can be confident that our sound will be just right. We are also happy to play straight acoustic if you'd like.
