Fire Show Safety Information
Indoor venues - provided there is ample space (such as in bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants) where it’s crowded and the people are in close vicinity to the show, the owner of the venue and/or the organizers of the event must:
Determine an area with approx 15 – 30ft space from audience for the show (15ftx15ft) minimum or provide a platform or stage (min approx 15ftx15ft) which raises the level of the fire show higher than the audience – There must be no flammable / ignitable materials around this area (straw, paper, curtains). The ceiling must be at least 10ft high from the surface the fire show will be on, whether it’s the floor, stage or platform. The performance area should be clear with no fans or air-condition blowing on the performer.
Ensure the venue is well ventilated or that windows can be opened to let the smoke clear.
Ensure staff members are aware of the locations of fire extinguishers & emergency exits and are able to use them. Emergency exits must be clear from any obstruction. They should know the emergency phone number 911.
An announcement to “stand back” (by presenter, security or staff member) should be made before fire show begins so that the audience moves away and stands at a safe distance from the fire show. Security/staff must ensure clubbers don’t walk into the fire performance, especially if they are drunk.
Serving of food & drink must stop completely for the duration of the fire performance, unless the fire show is done on a designated stage and service won’t interfere with the fire show. Waiters with trays must NEVER zoom past the fire show area, it’s dangerous, it annoys the audience who want a clear view of the show and those who want to take photos/videos.
Pets and animals must be safely restrained, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fuel Spillage: Sometimes fuel splashes on the floor when the spinning fire toys are used, therefore for stages and dance floors ensure someone is available with a dry mop to clear up any fuel spillage immediately after the fire show is finished.
If there are any Fire Alarms in an indoor venue they must be temporarily disabled if possible.
Permission is required from the venue prior to booking a fire show, particularly if the show will be done indoors.
Outdoor venues - provided there is space available or allocated specially for the show, the points mentioned above apply as well.
