I always hit the stage with a bang and want to hit people with strong vocals from the very beginning. Don't expect a typical rock back and forth type of smooth vibes reggae. My show is sexy and interactive. I write all my own music but will also throw in a few familiar reggae songs to get the crowd going.
Born to Sing
Singer/Songwriter Tanya Carter realized at an early age that music was all she wanted to (link hidden) great-grandmother, grand-mother, mother and father were all involved with music in some way so music came almost naturally to her and she was singing in her church choir at four years old!
Choosing to start her professional career at 18 she recorded and released her
first song ‘I Wanna Get to Know You Better’, which was a Dancehall/Reggae
fusion which became an instant hit. After just a year into her career she
decided she wanted to assist in the production of her own songs. Tanya became involved in the whole music-making process in order to ensure that what she wanted to express was coming out through her music. She also took up the Post of Program Coordinator at the Music Industry Association of Belize, became very involved with the Belize Music Agency and then eventually took up the Program Coordinator post at the National Institute of Culture and History, at the time a budding new government agency. Suffice to say she left her mark everywhere she went and this only helped to cement her in the young and growing music industry of Belize.
At 20 years old, Tanya started adding accolades to her resume and became the youngest artist to win the Lord Rhaburn Outstanding Artist Award at the Lord Rhaburn Jazz Festival. Opening for international acts such as Etana, Alaine, Lexxus, Luciano, Morgan Heritage, Shyne and Omarion while headlining shows and concerts in Belize, Mexico, Suriname, Jamaica, Utah, New York,Chicago, Dallas and California, Tanya has continually evolved and in the process upped her game at every turn. Tanya also found the time to showcase her versatility elsewhere, guest starring in Belize’s popular local TV series “No Matta Wat” stunning audiences with her acting prowess and parlaying that into a permanent role on the show.
After a string of early singles Her Debut album, Daydreaming, was released in 2011 and received regular rotation on reggae-centric stations in the Caribbean, Los Angeles, Africa, Mexico and Lithuania; and would win her the first of three Best Female Vocalist of the
Year awards. It remains one
of the most critically
acclaimed Belizean albums.
She was also contracted to
write a Lithuanian
children’s song called
‘Vincas’ which peaked at
#3 on the Lithuanian
music charts after being
featured on the hit single‘Heavenly Belize’ that accompanies the aerial photo book of the same name. Tanya had started experimenting and decided to write something other than Reggae and in the process created a Soca-based song, titled ‘I Am Belize’ which went on to become the National Song in Belize after being picked up by the National Institute of Culture and History. For the next six months she was on tour with NICH performing her new hit for crowds around the country. The song gave her legitimate notoriety as a writer and she soon began writing songs for other artists as well as Jingles for corporate clients. The following year she penned another nationalistic anthem titled ‘Belizean Pride’ that won the National Soca Song Competition presented by NICH and had another theme song under her belt. It wouldn’t be long before the First Lady of Belize took note and handpicked her to write and produce ‘The Inspiration Song’ for her new NGO, The Special Envoy for Women & Children. Truly inspiring stuff as the namesake would suggest.
