What to Expect
Here are some key questions to get answered when you're hiring a speaker:
1. How will they tailor their content to relate to your audience? A speaker who is unrelatable to audience members (translation: did not do their homework ahead of time) will quickly be ignored in favor of the smartphone that's in their pocket.
2. Why do they charge what they charge? There is a reason that some speakers charge $500 for a keynote and others charge $50K (hint: inexpensive speakers aren't charging less than others out of the kindness of their hearts). The right speaker should be able to clearly articulate the value they bring and why they are worth what they charge.
3. How can they assure you that their performance will measure up to your expectations? It's easy to create an enticing persona online, but the right speaker should be able to back that up (hint: ask them to!).
Here are some questions for you to consider:
1. How important is it that you hire the right speaker for this event? If you can afford for a speaker to bomb, then an inexpensive amateur will suffice. If you want to ensure that the speaker knocks it out of the park, invest in hiring a professional who will ensure that your goals are achieved.
