The 22nd Row is a 6-piece band of seasoned musicians, impeccably recreating the timeless classics of Elton John. The show is a hit-filled, authentic sounding celebration of Elton's greatest songs that will have you clapping your hands and singing along, if not dancing in the aisles! Not just a show, but an EXPERIENCE.
(Where does the band name come from? A line from Elton's smash hit, "Candle in the Wind" of course! "Goodbye Norma Jean / From the young man in the 22nd row...")

The 22nd Row is a 6-piece band led by longtime music scene mainstay Tom Hipps, who emulates his musical hero Elton as well or better than anyone out there. He is backed by keyboardist/vocalist Jim Hanson, bassist/vocalist David Flavin, guitarist/vocalist Steve Treu, drummer/mandolinist Jerry Lichtsinn and percussionist/flautist/saxist/vocalist Mauricio Colmenares. All are seasoned, professional musicians who faithfully re-create the intricate, inventive, and downright groovin' musical stylings of Elton's band.
They cover the big hits that everyone knows and loves, along with the best album cuts that Elton aficionados will be thrilled to hear. Shows vary slightly, but you can expect to hear mainstays like Rocket Man, Bennie and the Jets, Tiny Dancer, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, Candle in the Wind, Crocodile Rock, I'm Still Standing, Your Song and others. Plus, a few Billy Joel hits are added for an even better experience!
The band dresses for the occasion with sharp, colorful outfits that reflect the times when these songs were dominating the airwaves. Performances can range from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the needs of the client. You may find "cheaper" entertainment, but we're confident you will be thrilled you chose The 22nd Row for your event. Your guests might even start calling you Captain Fantastic!
The 22nd Row was formed in 2022 by singer/songwriter Tom Hipps, who has released six albums of original material that have enjoyed national and international radio airplay, had his songs placed in TV shows on PBS, HBO and in indie films, and performed thousands of live shows over the years. He has now fulfilled his longtime dream of assembling a 6-piece band of top-tier musicians who, led by Tom's excellent sounding Elton-like vocal chops, faithfully re-create the classic music of Elton John. They've put together an exciting, hit-filled stage show that will have you clapping, singing along, and quite possibly dancing in the aisles!
The 22nd Row can provide their own lighting & sound equipment and techs for an additional fee, or will work with your PA/lighting system and technicians. A 16-channel mixer is the minimum requirement to cover all voices and instruments (though 24 is ideal).
The band will perform anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the client's needs.
The performance area must be at least 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep to accommodate the band and stage gear.
There must be a private room or rooms (bathrooms are acceptable if no rooms are available) where the band can change into their stage outfits. (Porta-potties alone are not acceptable.)
Food and beverages provided for the band & crew are not mandatory, but always appreciated!
