About
The Bloom Consort was founded by Dwayne Heisler in 1987, along with other members of his madrigal choir at Bloomsburg University. Dwayne led the group through 2019, when he passed the baton to the current co-leaders, tenor Gene Schneyer and bass Michael Raffaele.
Through the years, the membership has changed, but the goal has remained constant: to provide a representative range of extraordinary 15th- though 17th-century music, sung with understanding and joy, often accompanied by light commentary that we hope will inform and delight our listeners.
Singers come to The Bloom Consort with a wide variety of musical experience that has included not only the occasional degree in music but also community theater, Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, professional church choirs, barbershop choruses, intensive workshops in Renaissance musical performance, and large choruses such as the Philadelphia Pops Festival Choir, the NYC Oratorio Society, and others. We feel the blend of such varied experience is part of what makes us unique.
We hope to make your Renaissance-themed event or religious service extraordinarily special!
Our current roster includes Elena Gregorio, Chris Mudge, and Anne Stevenson Smith, sopranos; Virginia Kaycoff and Julie Lopes, altos; Brian Reid and Gene Schneyer, tenors; and Jack Ingram and Michael Raffaele, basses.
