Gig Length: 60 - 180 minutes
We're an acoustic band with three vocalists. We use this and a variety of instruments and styles of music to keep our sound fresh throughout all of our performances.
We often play originals, but we do covers as well. Special requests should be given in advance so we can rehearse and bring our best possible performance of your favorite songs!
We are experienced with live audio, and typically run our own sound. Our setup is fairly small, so we're versatile in terms of space.
We can be background music, or be engaged with the audience, and can play for as short or as long as you need.
We are willing to travel.
The Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs took their name from mountain founding members Zack and Kendra Harding passed when the two began gig-swapping between Zack's hometown of Hendersonville and Kendra's stomping grounds in Winston-Salem. Gig-swapping became dating, dating became marriage, and the Bugs took the stage for the first time officially in 2015. Ryan Packett joined the lineup in 2017, bringing a new versatility to the band and rounding out their sound.
Blending their varied musical tastes and experiences, The Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs create a unique Americana experience that ranges from classic bluegrass style music, to jazz-influenced pieces. They have drawn comparisons to people from folk rock legends like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, to contemporary creators such as Ingrid Michaelson and Jon Foreman.
Their self-titled debut album is set to release in the summer of 2018.
When possible, we should either be indoors or under a tent to prevent damage to our instruments from the elements.
