The Creative Writing Club is a singer-songwriter based band with an atmospheric sound. We perform original music with a small selection of covers. The Creative Writing Club can play a wide variety of venues, from acoustic performances for small venues to a full-band sound for larger venues. Their repertoire allows them to play up to an hour and a half set without breaks.

The Creative Writing Club is a low-key type of band. The music ranges from light-hearted, upbeat folk to slow, personal meditations. The subject matter of the songs varies but is heavily influenced by growing up and living in the midwest which, as you may or may not know, has it's ups and downs. Sadly, we are not a dance band, though one could dance to our music if they felt inclined to do so. Instead, The Creative Writing Club focuses more on providing a laid-back sound that people of all types can enjoy. Make sense? To put it simply, The Creative Writing Club is a singer-songwriter based band driven by a distinct folk sound.
We don't require much to play. We're happy to play on a stage or in a corner or whatever the space calls for. Though, if we were to play as a full band (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard), a larger amount of space would be preferable. We can play without a house sound-system if necessary, but someone requesting us to perform should specify what their sound (and stage) setup is. No lighting really needed; we're not too fancy.

We love Neil Young, Yo La Tengo, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Velvet Underground, They Might Be Giants, and Sufjan Stevens. We also draw a lot of inspiration from jazz artists such as John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Pharoah Sanders, and Thelonious Monk. All of these artists have influenced us in one way or another.
