My name is Doug Carmichael and I perform with a variety groups ranging from horn bands to small jazz trios.
Here is a list of the different groups and a brief description.
Otone Brass Band - New Orleans style. We do traditional second line as well as Latin and funk
Funk Knuf Band - Three piece horn band with amazing vocals

Doug Carmichael, a staple in the Colorado jazz scene, has captivated audiences with his soulful saxophone and masterful performances for over three decades. Based in Longmont, Colorado, Doug draws inspiration from the scenic landscapes around him, infusing his music with a sense of freedom and adventure that mirrors the Rocky Mountains. Known for his expressive style and deep improvisational prowess, Doug’s performances weave classic jazz with a modern twist, creating an experience that resonates with listeners of all ages.
With influences ranging from John Coltrane to contemporary jazz fusion artists, Doug has performed in a variety of venues, from intimate clubs to large festivals. His passion for jazz extends beyond performing—he’s also an active educator, sharing his knowledge with aspiring musicians in his community. Doug Carmichael’s music is a testament to his dedication to jazz and his continuous journey of musical exploration.
Doug, a Colorado native, that started playing saxophone at the age of 11. In his high school years, he started studying with CU Professor of saxophone, Vince Gnojek. Doug attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and continued to study from Vince Gnojek and later with Tom Meyer. Doug holds an undergraduate and master's degree from CU Boulder in music education and a minor in saxophone performance.
