We are a duo/trio/group (4 piece if needed) of musicians who have always been in love with sound of the Americana style and the "not in a box" approach to performing. We do some covers too but remain mostly in the vein of Americana/Folk/Blues with influences of the late greats John Prine, Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt as well as new artists such as Jason Isbell, Charlie Parr, Son Volt and many more. We mostly do originals that are influenced by this sound. We as a duo can do an entire night of John Prine.
We would love to help out and perform for your next outing.
Thanks
Crooked & Wide
They were great. Very engaging and excited to be at the event. Their music was a great mix for our customers and right on the mark! They did think they were originally scheduled to play in the parking lot near the food truck, but I had them set up inside the store, which they were completely fine with and very accommodating!

We are not considered a dance band but more of a listening, lyric, harmony and fingerpicking acoustic guitar heavy duo with the beat of the drums driving the sound. We tell jokes and try to get everyone involved with singing along on contemporary as well as classics tunes infused with uptempo and thought provoking original songs. Soft background dinner crowds (with the drummer using a cajon) as well as small living room concert listening venues are our speciality.
Just a quick note to tell you how we came about the name Crooked & Wide. I have been writing songs in my head for a lot of years but never seemed to have the confidence or bravery to write them down and have them stare back at me.
I was afraid that if I started to do that, I would either fail miserably or they would quickly tell me that I don’t have a clue and I should just stay a bass player, sing harmony and keep my thoughts to myself. Well as you can see here I decided, screw it, what the heck will it matter if no one ever sees them. Well then of course I was asked by some of the people I jammed with to play my originals and to my surprise they actually liked them..a lot.
So that was encouraging enough for me to keep on going. So now nine years after
the first song I put down on paper I have a bunch of them. Some are performed
live too by Herb and I in this duo. Lesson learned. So
back to the name. Since we have always pretty much stayed on the straight and
narrow path I thought, hey that might be a good name but soon found it to be pretty
popular as a band name. Then it hit me, what about the opposite of that? Mmmmm?
So the name was born and Herb liked it. It’s been greeted with mixed reactions
from some people but all in all, WE like it so there it is. I never did like the
straight and narrow much anyway as a lot of my songs can attest to. I write a lot
about drinking, old age, gambling, the devil and a few love songs sprinkled in.
So once again hope you enjoy our style of music and approach to what we call “Acoustic
with a Kick”. We have a couple of songs up so far but keep
in mind this is a work in progress so check back early and often. Please don’t
hesitate to contact us if you’re looking for entertainment or if you just have
a comment, question or constructive suggestion, we’d love to hear from you.
Enjoy
