John Melinchock has been the lead guitar player and lead vocalist with Bill Haley's Comets from 1988 through 2010. That puts him third in line for longevity in the band next to Rudy Pompilli, 25 years, and Al Rappa who has been there since 1956.
*****Newspaper review*****
Comets bring back rockin’ Peninsula memories
Aug. 1, 2007, Door County Advocate, Fish Creek, Wisc.
By Joe Knaapen, assistant editor
After Bill Haley’s Comets intoned their anthem —“1-2-3 o’clock, 4 o’clock rock”— enough people danced in the aisles of Door Community Auditorium to sell out the next segment in the 2007 summer version of the roots of Rock ‘n Roll.
The Comets, founded in the 1950s by the late Haley, put on a solid show of ’50s hits July 25 at DCA.
The founding father, Haley, died in 1981, but his legacy is carried on by Rappa, the bass player with an inimitable style who started touring with the band in 1956.
Rappa acquired the rights to the name and continues to play the hits that made Haley — and his contemporaries from Elvis to Little Richard — great. Rappa is celebrating his 52nd year touring as many as five nights a week across the U.S.
While Rappa is the man with the credentials that make him a grandfather of rock, his sidemen make the music come to life.
John Melinchock does more than yeoman work as lead guitarist — looked like he borrowed licks from everybody; Les Paul to Stevie Ray Vaughan.
GIG REVIEWS
Very professional, experienced and accomodating band - they kept the dance party going from the time they started until the time it was over. Played wide range of dance music and provided their play list prior to party for minor adjustments. Would definitely hire again!

The gentlemen arrived early to set up their equipment and do their sound checks, performed for the allotted time. Their music had people up and dancing. It was a great experience for me as the person who hired them for the event. They were easy to deal with, contact was exceptional. I have had people ask where I found them and I give them the website. They truly were Fabulous!

We were extremely pleased with the professional, flexible attitude all of the guys had at our party. There was a few surprises that interupted their flow of the night and the band was able to get the dance floor hopping again!

Such fun and what a great band! I booked the Mojo Kings with out ever hearing them live, and they put on an amazing show for our reception. My family is not a "dancing" family but they were able to get a lot of people on the dance floor! John Melinchock was really great in handling communication, and always was on top of things. We had an 8-piece band with a horn section. I had a ton of people come up to me during the reception and say "These guys are great! Where did you find them?!" They really made the reception and would book them again in heartbeat!
- Katie S
The band Made our party! We couldn't have asked for a more energetic and entertaining group of people. Even though the weather was bad, they still kept their word, and got to us on time. We are still getting compliments on how great the party was, from every age group... Thanks to The Fabulous Philadelphia Mojo Kings Dance Band; we can't wait until next year when you come back!! The band was sensational! They accommodated all of our special requests with only 2 weeks notice. They were friendly, fun and overall a joy to work with. While we chose all 1950's music, the band has a full repertoire of songs from all eras. We would hire them again in a second and highly recommend them to others!
- Camilla M
The Fabulous Philadelphia Mojo Kings Dance Band was a great addition to our 50's style American Bandstand theme family picnic. Everyone commented on the great sound of a live band with horns! They were set up and ready to go way in advance, and played even more time then they were scheduled to do. Would highly recommend to anyone liking that live dance band sound!!
