Clients take note: Jerry works typically as a featured performer capturing and interacting with the attention of an audience. In contrast, Jerry does not typically provide background music like might be provided by a quiet harpist during a dinner. Too, while the show can be prearranged in an exclusive music genre (like Country Music), audiences more often enjoy a wider variety that includes nostalgic hits from many different periods.
Dr. J. will arrive early and bring everything needed for a quality show. He will settle into and arrange the staging area, setup equipment and conduct sound tests to verify balance, volume and a good fit for the area and population. Jerry interacts with an audience directly and casually and always manages to establish a friendly and intimate rapport with everyone. Some jokes and talking about the music brings everyone close and they have a great time reviewing the music everyone knows well.
Again, Dr. J. works as a featured performer capturing audience attention and interact with them directly - rather than background "behind the scenes" music like one might use a harpist at a dinner party.
Dr. Jerry Galloway has performed as a professional musician, drummer and vocalist for 50 years. Even in High School, he was the district student conductor. In 1969, Jerry was performing up to 10 shows each week on pipe organ at the old Warner Brothers vaudevillian theater in Milwaukee, WI, - today known as the Riverside/Pabst Blue Ribbon theater. He studied theory and composition for several years with Manny Albam, the renowned Jazz musician from New York City. As a drummer, since the mid-1960’s, Jerry was a founding member of The Steamrollers, based in New Jersey. There he played 6 nights a week in the 70’s and toured with the legendary Grand Ole Opry star, Webb Pierce.
Jerry maintained full-time school work with a Bachelor's Degree in Logic. After law school, Jerry began the earliest work on technology in education earning his Doctorate in Instructional Technology from the University of Houston. He followed with 30 years as a university professor of education. He is a widely published author, public and motivational speaker, stage actor, and pilot. And, as a 5th degree Taekwondo Master, he a 5-time national medalist winning the gold at the US National Championship in Detroit, 2002. As an astronomer, he operates his own observatory and serves as the Astronomy Lecturer for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. He is also a member of MENSA.
Jerry performed as Frank Sinatra with the Chris Chandler Orchestra from Savannah, Georgia, and directed his own musical and dance stage play, "The Nostalgic Jukebox," recreating his characters of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tom Jones on stage in Orangeburg and Charleston, South Carolina.
Today, Jerry is the drummer for Denver's greatest party band, 25 SOUTH. Jerry is now a signed recording artist with Tate Records. Jerry can be found singing weekends at local restaurants, playing with the band, or singing at parties and special events with the very best music from the past 60 years.
The act is a "track-act" - meaning that background tracks provide orchestration similar to or virtually the same as the original renditions familiar to us all. I often use a cordless mic allowing me some freedom of movement around the area. I setup a small mixer, 1 or more speakers and a traditional-style music stand. The music and the show is prerecorded and sequenced. Every song at every show is documented to ensure that follow-up or subsequent and recurring performances always bring new and custom set lists without repeating prior song selections. This is sustainable every month for years. Too, the "Master Book" is always nearby in case anyone has a personal request.
Each set list is carefully constructed with backing tracks recorded in advance to fit each show uniquely. This includes avoiding songs that I may have previously performed for that audience. There is typically a mix of light/soft music countered by stronger/more powerful numbers almost in a back-n-forth balance. Shows are almost always a wide mix of styles, genres, artists and periods. While some patrons do indeed choose to sing along with familiar songs, the show would in no way be considered a sing-along-type show and is not geared toward that objective.
Even though tracks are prerecorded, selected and prearranged. It is often easy and efficient to step away from that and bring up a request by the audience. If I don't have that specific number I can almost always get something from the requested artist... even on the fly.
While the whole repertoire is filled with nostalgic and familiar hits from the past, not every patron remembers every song of course. Nevertheless, there is virtually always some specific hits that each person will remember from their past. No one in Colorado can match the range of artists and styles covered in the The Jerry Galloway Show lineup.
Influences go far beyond the limited list of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, and Tom Jones, Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison, and Gary Allen, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks and, of course, Michael Buble'. Even older influences like Cab Calloway, early R&B artists, early founders of Rock-n-Roll like Ricky Nelson, the Beatles and more have all had an effect on Jerry's musical style and repertoire. No one today can touch the range of styles and artists covered by The Jerry Galloway Show.
I have no need for equipment other than an electrical outlet. I provide everything.
The only staging concerns might be dance floor space and of course not putting patrons up close to speakers.
