Carl Baham
Carl Baham - Drummer/Percussionist is a native New Orleanian who grew up in a musical environment thanks to his mother and professor of music at Xavier University, Estelle Baham. Carl began studying at a very early age and was a part of several music programs in the city of New Orleans, including the St. Augustine High School Music Dept. and the Xavier University Music Dept. Having studied under some of the city’s influential educators and was compelled to give back to the music community by becoming an educator and director of bands for one of the local high schools, where he found a joy and richness in helping to turn out young artists of the future. He would continue to perform and travel with many of New Orleans’ greatest artist such as Willie (Willie T) Turbintine, Earl (The African Cowboy) Turbintine, Greg Dawson, Wanita Brooks, Kurt Brunus and many many others. Carl’s passion for performing has taken him around the world several times over, and has landed him in the company of musical legends like Fats Domino, The Meters, The Batiste Brothers, Stevie Wonder and Allen Toussaint to name a few.
But while visiting and recording in places like Sao Paulo, Brazil and Ronny Scott’s in London, England, it has always been the city of New Orleans that brings out his best. Sharing a musical moment with local artists at festivals and night clubs is where you’d most likely find this lover of jazz, r&b, funk, rock, big band and classical music. Carl’s wide variety in musical taste speaks loudly to his ability to authenticate in so many genres, and bring a feeling to a tune that is both natural and true. Carl Baham is one of New Orleans’ best kept secrets.
