The Peppermints

The Peppermints will typically arrive to perform for you about 20-30 minutes before their scheduled performance time. Exceptions can be made if you want us to arrive sooner or later (like if we are a surprise!) Our sound system takes less than 10 minutes to set-up. In additional to our two speaker/amp/mixers, we have four mic stands and four cabled microphones that we will set-up and plug in. If we have traveled a long way to perform for you, we may want to use the facilities or have some water before we sing, but that's it! We are ready to perform very soon after arrival.

The Peppermints are an all-female vocal holiday quartet based in the Los Angeles area. We are all members of the larger Christmas Caroling Company The Other Reindeer Carolers (which offers 4-voice mixed-gender quartets in traditional Victorian costumes, if that is what you are actually looking for), but we wanted to be able to sing together even when our hard-working tenor and bass colleagues are not available, and thus were the Peppermints formed!

In the Los Angeles professional singer world, there are always more sopranos and altos available than there are tenors and basses. Traditional music is arranged so that tenor and bass voices are required, but pop and contemporary music styles have more leeway. So, we decided to try it! We started gathering and arranging music that we liked and wanted to sing and started rehearsing. A few brain-storming sessions later, the idea of The Peppermints was well on its way to becoming a reality.

One of the biggest problems with hiring live singers in any context is that the human voice is limited in its volume in a way that instrumentalists and amplified singers are not. Without tenors and basses, we found that volume was a problem for The Peppermints as well, and so we decided to invest in a high-quality, battery-operated two-speaker portable sound system and include that in every booking. This new sound system opened up a world of possibilities, because we don't need to have access to an electrical outlet. We are an ideal performance ensemble for street parties or outdoor festivals for this reason!
