The Soul Searchers, formerly Chuck Brown and The Soul Searchers, was founded in Washington, D.C. in the late 1960’s by Chuck Brown. The original group is credited with creating the “Go Go” genre, the official music of Washington, D.C. The band released it’s first album titled “We The People“ in 1972, which contained the hit “We The People”. Their second album, “Salt Of The Earth” was released in 1974. It contained the hit “Blow Your Whistle”, which was sampled by the Grammy Award winner Eve, in her 2007 hit “Tambourine”. Also on that album is one of the most sampled drum break beats of all time featured in “Ashley’s Roach Clip” which has been used by Milli Vanilli, Eric B and Rakim, LL Cool J and many others. In 1978, the band released its third album “Bustin’ Loose”. This album went on to spend four weeks at #1 on the R & B Billboard singles chart in early 1979 and peaked at # 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Hip Hop artist, Nelly, sampled “Bustin Loose” for his big hit “Hot In Herre”. “Bustin Loose” has been played after every home run hit by the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park since that stadium’s opening in 2008.
