Chicago is finally begining to recieve the respect it so deserves from the world of hip hop. With the recent success of Chi-Town artists such as L.E.P Bogus Boys, King Louie, & Chief Keef, the industry had no choice but to take notice of the creativity coming out of the Second City. The next phase of the Windy City Uprising will be led by one of it's most talented underground groups; The WolfPack. The group is made up of three very versatile emcees: Chise The General, Gouch IllNoise, & Keno Kapone. Their sound, produced primarily by Keno Kapone & ShockHouse, is a mixture of both coasts & the south, all while staying true to their Midwestern roots. Their lyrics are witty, clever, & punchline heavy. In the spring of 2004, The WolfPack(then known as Tha Hitt Squad) embarked on a tour across Midwestern states including Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma. The Squad made such an impression that they were asked on a second tour a few months later. Their time on the road ended with a performance at The House of Blues in their native Chicago. While on tour, the group managed to move 3300 copies of their debut ep: "Band of Brothers". Not bad for a group with absolutely no radio airplay or promotion outside of Illinois. Around the same time they were on tour, Tha Squad held three of the top five songs among IL artists on (link hidden), second only to Kanye & Twista. Fast forward to 2012. The team has returned with a new mixtape, new focus; but the drive, determination, and ambition remain the same. Chise, Gouch, and Kapone are once again ready to try and follow the path set by Twista, Kanye, and others. Their new tape, aptly titled, "The Hangover" is a drug & alcohol filled joyride that goes hard from start to finish. Songs like the absolutely intoxicating ode to Kush & Ciroq, aka "Loud & Clear" and the feel-good, summertime vibe of "Ridin' High" show the group's potential for commercial success. While others, like the hard hitting "S.O.S" and the sexy sound of "Extasy" show that the group is far from one dimensional. A secret can only be kept for so long....and this group of emcees are one of Chicago's best kept. It's time to let the cat out of the bag. The WolfPack is eager to prove that they are worthy of at least the chance to show the world that Chicago's invasion of the hip hop community didn't end with the artists named in the second sentence. It was merely a preview of what was to come.
