I provide soft but elegant background music, helping to set the proper mood for your event. My music can bring an air of sophistication, relaxation, romance, or excitement to your occasion. I specialize in the music of the American songbook, but my repertoire also consists of many popular songs, jazz standards, classical, theatrical music, and original compositions if requested. I'm content to stay in the background if necessary but can also come to the foreground when needed. I have no problem playing special requests if notified in advance. I can easily accompany any act you may have in mind for your event. For a more prominent and lively atmosphere, I can assemble a larger group ranging anywhere from duo (with bass, or with trumpet/sax/trombone), piano trio (drums and bass), quartet or larger (drums, bass, trumpet/saxophone/trombone). I can guarantee that the music will be invigorating, diverse, and grooving, but never overbearing.
For a more exotic act, you may consider hiring me as an accordionist! The repertoire does not differ largely, but consists of more European songs suited to the instrument. The accordion is always sure to be a hit and can add a European flavor to your event!
Thomas Linger, originally from Waynesville North Carolina, has already made quite the name for himself in the jazz world. At only 26 years of age, he has already won the American Jazz Pianist Competition, and performed in New York City's famed Village Vanguard. In addition to his talents as a multi-instrumentalist and composer, he is also a passionate teacher, valuing his ability to share his knowledge and love of music with others. You can expect the utmost professionalism in booking, attire, attitude, and musicality from Thomas no matter the event.
If a piano is provided on location, I don't require anything! If not, I just need a space to play and electricity for a keyboard.

I play jazz standards, American songbook songs, blues, funk, ragtime, Latin standards, show tunes, and popular piano bar-type music.
I am largely influenced by the music of Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, and Miles Davis. My piano playing is highly derivative of Ellington, Bill Evans, Art Tatum, Herbie Hancock, and Oscar Peterson.
