Tinsel Singers

Tinsel performs totally original vocal jazz arrangements of our favorite holiday songs and carols in tight jazz harmonies. A quartet will arrive at your event a little early to find a good place to sing and do a sound check. We often sing without amplification when the acoustics are right, but we also have a sound system that we can set up for larger venues and outdoor events. Our costumes are black and silver retro cocktail, inspired by the mid-century jazz scene. We can tailor our performance to your specific needs, so whether you want a concert presentation or just some swinging background music, we can accommodate. Our mission is to entertain, to stir up your nostalgia for the holidays, and to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck with our tightly tuned harmonies. Tinsel is not your average group of Christmas carolers. Established in 2015 by Laura Mercado-Wright and Trevor Shaw, Tinsel performs our own original vocal jazz arrangements of your favorite holiday songs. We have a company of 25 singers who rehearse together throughout the year, and perform in acapella quartets. Our roster is stacked with Austin’s best professional singers, including Austin Critics Table Award recipients and several Grammy® winners, and their distinctive harmonies and smooth blend take the carols you love to a whole new level.

Tinsel is delighted to provide entertainment for a variety of holiday celebrations and events – both corporate and private – as well as strolling and singing at shopping centers, tree lighting ceremonies, lobbies of office buildings and hotels, restaurants and retirement communities. If you can imagine us there, then there we shall be!

We can sing acoustically or with a sound system, depending on your venue. Arrangements need to be made in advance if our sound system is required. We prefer to be in a well-lit area, but we can make a cozy fireside work too. Our singers require access to water and restroom facilities on all gigs, and outdoor events are contingent on weather that is tolerable. Our quartets take a 10 minute break every hour.
