PTS outreach songs with discussion(s) by songwriter.
Retired disabled Vietnam Veteran/singer-songwriter who started a Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) outreach/awareness band.
"I first started writing poetry in college in the 60's; wrote a lot after I was drafted and went to Vietnam.
The war changed my life immensely. A few years after I came back I bought some Neil Young and Bob Dylan songbooks, bought a guitar and started righting songs-pretty rough ones at that ! Most of the early ones were angry and isolating. After trying to cope with my war traumas-by avoidance, drinking too much, isolating, over working, and just being a plan old miserable person, I finally got some help getting on the path to recovery. In 1993 I went to LEEDS VA in North Hampton Massachusetts, got my disability claim done.
As part of my therapy, I started making things out of rocks and minerals and doing craft shows, always writing poems and songs. Moving to Asheville in 2007 opened the doors of my creativity in songwriting and I've been writing a lot, especially these past 7 years.
I tuned up my performance skills by playing open mics in Asheville AND hanging with my "little brother" Aaron "Woody" Wood. He has inspired me and helped me become a better songwriter.
A word about my logo-the M-16's with the flowers in the barrels ! A flower put in a gun barrel has grown to symbolize an universal icon of Peace. Let us all hope that we have Peace every day of our lives.
If you give a careful listen to my lyrics I think you would find some healing meanings in the words and melodies.
HOA BINH BLESSINGS to each and every one who visits my website. Please feel free to purchase/share some of my music.
I hope my songs create an awareness to PTS and give the Veteran and his or hers family and friends a realization that there is hope for recovery from PTS. Music and songwriting and the arts are incredible paths to spiritual healing. May all of you find your Hoa Binh (Vietnamese for "Peace") in this life and the next.
