Tony Sauza aka Tone Irie is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music educator and producer from Los Angeles, California. With a deep love for reggae and Afro-Caribbean music, Tone Irie interprets his sound from his experiences living as a Chicano growing up in Northeast Los Angeles.
2017 marks the start of Tone Irie’s solo project, displaying a deep commitment to reggae, dancehall, dub, and tropical bass with songs in both spanish and english. Be on the lookout for upcoming single releases, selecta sets, guest appearances and more!
Tony received his undergraduate degree in Ethnomusicology from UCLA and earned a Masters in Afro-Latin Music from California State University Los Angeles. He taught music full-time for over 8 years and has recently stepped out of the classroom to become Regional Program Director for the national nonprofit, Little Kids Rock.
Tony Sauza has studied voice, guitar and Cuban tres with internationally renowned musicians such as Bobby Bradford, Ron Berman, Yalil Guerra, Dr. Paul de Castro, Iris Sandra Cepeda, and Afro-Cuban master drummer, Francisco Aguabella. Tony has also studied extensively in Cuba with several master musicians including Rafael Cisneros, “El Duque” and Ramon Marquez from the Afro-Cuban folkloric group, Cutumba. Tony has performed nationally and internationally for over 20 years in places such as Beijing and Tianjin, China, Mexico, New York, Chicago, and other major cities across the U.S. He is currently touring, recording, and performing with the singer-songwriter collective, Cuicani and also contributes occasionally to the urban Cumbia outfit, Viento Callejero.
PA System is required for all Tone Irie performances. If needed, we can arrange for a PA rental for an additional fee. PA specifications vary depending on the size of the venue, number of attendees, and building dimensions.
