I play a solo show singing and playing acoustic guitar, mostly my original music with some covers. Most music I write is folk and Americana style but I also play some covers of folk, rock and country put to my own style. My voice is reminiscent of Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard Cohen and my writing style is influenced by Gordon Lightfoot, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor and John Prine to name the top few. This should give you a quick idea of what you might expect.
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio self-defined troubadour Tony DiCorpo is a folk/Americana singer-songwriter. His acoustic-based musical writing style is filled with real-life experiences of love, loss, and everyday life with some fictional tales thrown into the mix for good measure. After almost a 20-year unintentional hiatus, Tony rediscovered his love for writing and playing guitar during the COVID-19 quarantine in 2020. Since the mid-2000's, Tony only occasionally played and wrote.
Tony began writing in college during the mid-1980's. "I was always writing my thoughts down a little like poetry. He already played the guitar and his love affair with music and songwriting began. Regardless of the song, creating a visual picture is important. "That is the key" DiCorpo says. "If the listener knows what the song is about after just the first listen, then I have accomplished what I set out to do."
From the early 1990's through 1998, Tony found himself ‘cutting his chops' playing out, writing more and recording demos but like many other musicians, record label rejections were plentiful. Not everyone makes it regardless of your talent level", Tony says. By 2001 music and writing became less and less of a priority as life happened.
The main thing that sets Tony's music apart from others in his style is the mix of acoustic instruments, a distinct strumming pattern and his gravel-like voice that compliments his songwriting. "I have always had to be the entire band. Bass strumming the guitar allows me to play a bass line while strumming giving the song a bigger sound."
I have 2 sound systems (up to) 900w output each if needed. I DO NOT have staging, a canopy/shelter or a lighting system. I will need access to 110v 15amp (min) for power.
I perform mostly original songs but also some covers as well. The covers are mostly songs by Gordon Lightfoot, Jimmy Buffett and other folk-style and singer-songwriter artists.
Jimmy Buffett, Gordon Lightfoot, Elvis Presley, Bruce Cockburn, James Taylor, Todd Snider, America, Billy Joel, John Prine, Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, Slaid Cleaves, Mac McAnally, Garth Brooks. Pretty much an old folkie :)
Lighting system (if available)
Staging or platform if not on solid pavement
