Original contemporary bluegrass music that conveys real-life experiences and hardships through soulful lyrical and instrumental arrangements.
Two Masonic Lodges, one from Winnipeg Manitoba and one from St. Paul Minnesota have been exchanging visits for 50 years. The Tony Rook Band made the evening a great success. A wide variety of people with wide musical interests enjoyed the performance and would encourage groups to book them for your event.
Tony and the band played at our wedding reception we had on our property. They sounded great and were very professional! We just let them do their thing and weren't disapointed. We would recommend them if you're in the market to hire a band.
Tony and the band set just the right vibe at our wedding. We wanted a bluegrass band to play the cocktail hour & dinner portion of our wedding reception before turning it over to a DJ for the more standard dance portion of the night. Tony Rook Band was just *perfect*! Their original songs, peppered with a handful of requested covers, really set the mood and was just what we hoped for at our Minnesota farm wedding. Tony and the guys went out of their way to make it a great experience for everyone there. We spoke to them for a few minutes before and during the event and they were very gracious and attentive in terms of making sure it was all we hoped for. Their musicianship was also greatly appreciated -- they are a fantastic band! The band received many compliments that night, and after the fact, from our guests. If you need an americana or bluegrass band for your event, you cannot go wrong with Tony Rook Band!
Working with Tony was great. Very professional and courteous. We gave Tony a couple of requests and then let him and his band do their thing. It was awesome! My wife and I have been talking about it since. We wouldn't have done it any other way. I hope to have an excuse to hire them again someday. If you're looking for a talented band, look no further.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Tony Rook is no bluegrass novice. He picked up his first guitar at the age of 12, rocking out in the local music scene before returning to his bluegrass roots. Tony, now a multi-instrumentalist, describes his music as “incredibly personal.” His songs convey real-life experiences and hardships through soulful lyrical arrangements and intricate guitar riffs. His album “Labor of Love,” released in 2000 with Rook & Wood, garnered much recognition in the bluegrass community and inspired Tony to continue to push his musical boundaries.
In his debut solo project “The Road Back Home,” released in March 2016, Tony showcases his singer/songwriter skills with eight original tracks of contemporary bluegrass featuring award-winning artists such as Becky Buller, Matt Flinner, and Dick Kimmel & Co.
Tony Rook Band members are Brent Fuqua on mandolin and vocals, Terry Johnson on bass and vocals, and Graham Sones on banjo and vocals. Brent brings a modern approach to his playing, his breaks in particular. He’s a strong instrumentalist whose creativity, enthusiasm and energy helps drive TRB. As its bassist, Terry is TRB’s backbone and brings those high tenor harmonies. Graham brings a driving banjo to the quartet. He’s extremely versatile and can easily shift from melodic fiddle tunes to a straight-ahead Scruggs style.
