True Flavor Blues is a five piece, slightly jazzy, traditional blues band fronted by Arizona Blues Hall-of-Famer, Scotty Spenner. We excel in low volume situations but can easily play clubs and festivals.

Gig Length: 40 - 240 minutes
We regularly play small rooms almost as an acoustic band, without a P.A system or microphones, simply using very small guitar amps and singing directly to the audience. We can also play clubs and festival shows and do tailor our performance a bit for the expected audience. If the audience is wanting to party and dance, that's the material we'll do. If it's a more intimate room where the audience is primarily listening, we may do more jazz and songs with more subtle instrumentation, and will likely improvise a bit more.
The band has been playing with its current lineup since October of 2016.
Scotty Spenner fronts the band, singing and playing guitar. He is a member of the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame and 2017 recipient of the Phoenix Mayor's Arts Award. Scotty is a fantastic blues singer and has a decades long history playing and teaching music of all types.
Chris Skowron is our fantastic Saxophone player, whether it is jazz, blues, or even ska.
James Robertson is the second guitar player and is renowned for his slide work and lap steel playing. He's played with many bands around the Phoenix area since his arrival to the valley in 1992 and is particularly fond of the "west coast" style of blues, as well as almost any electric guitar driven roots music from the post-war era, be it blues, western swing, rockabilly, R&B, and Memphis soul.
Vince Curtis on Drums and Curt Arndt on bass are the rhythm section that holds everything together. They have worked together in other bands previous to this one and bring that understanding of each other as players with them. They're understated and slightly mysterious.

Have a look at our setlist and you can get an idea of what the group plays. Our influences are quite diverse and we love all kinds of old traditional blues, swing, jump, jazz, soul, R&B, country, pop, and early rock-n-roll primarily from the early 1950s through the late 60s. Anything old, authentic, and TRUE!
We will need access to electrical outlets needed to power P.A. system and instrument amplifiers.
Typically we would need a stage area roughly 20 feet wide by 8 feet deep. In certain situations we can use less space if a full drumset or PA is not required.
