Ugly Rumor is a high-energy Classic Rock and Roll Cover Band consisting of experienced musicians from all walks of life who have experienced all types of performance venues and musical styles. With more than 100 combined years of musical experience, each band member has developed their craft with a multitude of musicians and honed their skills around good old American rock & roll that cooks. Together we produce a synergy of sound that provides a dynamic, danceable and thoroughly enjoyable rock and roll experience that unlocks memories from the past. Our gutsy vocals and musical wizardry create a high-energy driving force that generates excitement and audience participation.
We hired Ugly Rumor to play our wedding in October 2023 at Lefthand's Beer Garden and they did an amazing job. We owe them this very belated review (our calendar has been wildly booked ever since the wedding). Wayne was incredibly communicative and professional. They know exactly what they're doing for big events and their professionalism shows. They were easy to work with, we met prior to the event and went over main songs we wanted played and timeline (they even learned a few new songs just for our wedding). Wayne knows how these events work, the speeches were timed perfectly, the breaks were the right amount (we gave them a spotify playlist to play during breaks), the announcements were well done. We couldn't have picked a better fitting band.
Wayne and the band were so great on the day of the event, easy set-up and tear-down even though we hit the one weekend where the temps dropped for an outdoor wedding. They played through the cold and at the very end of the wedding upon last-minute request at 9pm they played Billy Joel's "Piano Man." The entire wedding looped arm and arm into a giant, inebriated but happy circle, with two of us in the crowd given mics, and we all sang the words (poorly, but it was 9 o'clock on a Saturday at the end of a Beer Garden wedding). It was an unforgettable experience.
If you're looking for a band for a wedding or another event that you want a big musical presence for, this is it. They have a lot of variety and range, good tunes, lots of instruments (they even played Careless Whisper! It was awesome), and a vibrancy that even the cold Colorado night air couldn't stop. The skills and passion of these musicians is awesome and shines through. They really made our wedding special and we'd absolutely recommend them without hesitancy.

Rob Knorr
(Guitar and Vocals) Rob (Chicago, IL) is the founder of Ugly Rumor and has been playing guitar for 40+ years. He has played in various bands (High Noon Saloon, the Rejects) with major influences from early rock & roll such as Chuck Berry to the melodic solos of Terry Kath of Chicago to the hard driving rock of Alvin Lee.
Tim Murphy
(Lead Vocals) Tim (Detroit, MI) has been singing since birth. There is an obvious Motown influence in Tim's singing with major vocal inspiration from Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and of course, Bob Seger. A few other vocal icons of influence include David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Steve Tyler and Frank Sinatra. Tim has extensive formal vocal training in classical and a capella styles. He has been an Ugly since 2006.
Bob Dias
(Drums & Vocals) Bob (Los Angeles, CA) was first introduced to a drum set by playing along to Bad Company and Deep Purples "Made in Japan", though his first gig as a teen was as the drummer for his high school music instructors 40-piece adult big band. His influences range from the big band era of Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and Louie Bellson, to rock drummers such as Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Ian Paice, Neil Peart and Phil Ehart. Bob is just as at home backing a 40-piece big band as he is driving a blues trio or as the engine that powers the good old fashion rock & roll of Ugly Rumor.
Wayne Lajoie
(Keyboards, Sax and Vocals) As a relatively new addition to Ugly Rumor and our token Canadian (actually, Orange County, CA), Wayne's great keyboard work and very sexy saxophone sounds add a special dimension to the sound of Ugly Rumor that cannot be overstated. Again, a lifetime musician, Wayne started musical endeavors as a jazz sax player who wanted to learn the keys solo to Boston's "Smokin". He is a tremendous talent you simply must hear.
Howard Scaman
(Bass & Vocals) Howard is the newest addition to Ugly Rumor and his great bass work keeps us grounded and puts a smile on all our faces. We'll post more on his bio when he gives us one. So for now, we'll simply refrain from making stuff up about him.
We supply everything to make your event a success. Lighting, sound, staging, props, canopies for outside, etc.
