During my childhood, I grew up in a small town in Iowa where my first job was as a paper girl. Delivering the Sunday Des Moines Register and collecting subscription fees provided me with my first glimpse into the world of work and the challenges of finding career fulfillment.
Motivated to bring about positive change in the world and empower those who face adversity, I chose a career in mental health and became a social worker. However, even after earning my master's degree in social work and becoming a faculty member at a small private college, I faced bullying and hostility in my workplace. This experiences helped me gain a deeper understanding of how work affects our daily lives.
In hopes of escaping the toxicity, I pursued a PhD in Sociology, hoping it would lead to a better job opportunity at a university. Unfortunately, this did not happen, and seeking guidance from experts did not alleviate my situation. Instead, I found myself in a worse environment than before, which led me to take action.
Through extensive research and experimentation, I have developed a comprehensive theory and STOP framework focused on transforming workplace bullying into workplace wellness. My passion for understanding the intricate dynamics at play in toxic work environments and my dedication to finding practical solutions for individuals and organizations drive my work in this field. Over time, I have refined my approach and strategies, drawing on my own experiences as well as insights from experts in the field.
My theory centers around the prevalence of toxicity in organizational culture and how individuals become accustomed to dysfunctional behaviors. To address the issue of workplace bullying, I firmly believe in the necessity of shifting the culture within organizations, with leaders taking decisive action to foster a more positive and supportive work environment.
As a consultant, coach, and trainer, I collaborate with numerous organizations to cultivate an organizational consciousness that is free from toxicity and bullying behaviors. I assist leaders in developing the skills required to dismantle a culture of bullying within their organizations. This entails understanding the complexities of workplace bullying, recognizing its manifestations, and intervening effectively. Furthermore, I provide training sessions and workshops to enhance organizations' comprehension of the problem and equip them with strategies for prevention and resolution that promote workplace wellness.
In addition to the coaching services I provide to targets and bystanders of workplace bullying, I also specialize in coaching leaders to create a safe and thriving workplace culture free from bullying and other forms of harassment.
