Before booking, Daniel was communicative and direct about his charges for a 30 minute holiday party performance for a blue collar, minority, family-owned company. I requested some personalization for his jokes, he was asked to incorporate aspects of the company, so this was included in his fee.
A few weeks before his performance, we talked about where he could find information about the company from articles, our socials and by directly reaching out to me. He reached out a few days prior to the event to clarify how to pronounce the name of our company and asked if the owners of the business would be in attendance.
Daniel arrived on time and was very accommodating to a delay in our schedule for the evening. Before he went on stage, he asked me how the owners of the company were related. They were father and daughter.
The main issues faced were that Daniel seemed very unprepared to perform this evening. He tried to incorporate jokes about the nature of the business, but it was clear that he made surface level research to everyone in the room. Daniel made inappropriate jokes at a corporate function - such as an off hand joke about thinking the owners were a couple. It was awkward and of course did not elicit laughs, what employee would laugh at that joke of they wanted to keep their job..
I had shared when booking, that this was a blue collar group, and a family owned business, requiring thought and care for the material presented.
Daniel made an effort to pivot and involve the crowd in his jokes.
Unfortunately in the end it did not appeal to the group.

Response from Witty Observational Stand Up Comedian:
While I was treated well, unfortunately, this wasn’t an ideal setup for a comedy performance. I was hired for what was described as “blue-collar construction workers” was informed a clean set wasn’t required, my material was chosen accordingly. Only to realize on stage, the majority of the small group were executives, various managers, what appeared to be office team, and their significant others. Very few, if any construction workers.
Adding to the challenge, the attendees weren't aware there would be a comedy performance until I was brought on stage, at which point they were still finishing dinner.
As confirmed by the reviewer, I take pride in being professional, arriving on time, maintaining communication before the event. I incorporated a few things about the company based on what I saw on the owners’ LinkedIn profiles, website, and a few articles, and even accommodated their 30 minute delay without complaint
I’m afraid that this was a case of a bad fit, and It's always a big disappointment to leave customers unhappy.
Daniel performed at Nia Centre first comedy show. He engaged with the crowd and had us laughing from the time he picked up the mic. Daniel is a must see comedian and we can't wait to watch him perform again.
