Alaskan alternative rock trio Zen Trembles is known throughout Alaska for their high energy originals & percussive sound that is very much coined as their own. Though a baby band born in late fall of 2018, we have a significant repertoire of originals & covers, playing 167 shows in 2019 alone, and gaining more & more steam each year! Zen Trembles can perform as a trio, duo, or solo act, are fully equipped with their own high quality PA and sound gear (and sound man to run it), and are happy to play songs by request with advance notice. We have played at dozens of restaurants & bars, private parties, weddings, fundraisers, and more, and look forward to planning live music with you!
Becky played at my wedding, and did a fabulous job! Her and her husband, Chad, were great to work with and we're very accommodating. Becky learned a few new songs that we requested, and even agreed to play a bit longer than we had anticipated on short notice.
Response from Zen Trembles:
Thanks for the great review Whitney, it was a blast to be a part of your special day! Best wishes to you and Mike!

Alaskan alternative rock trio Zen Trembles are known throughout Alaska for their high energy originals & percussive sound. Between songwriter Becky Kotter, leading with a usually alternatively tuned acoustic guitar paired with custom capos & powerful vocals, Lance Howard, adding slapping funky bass & backup vocals, and Marshal Comer, bringing an intricate funk-jazz-rock fusion drumming style, this band clearly delivers a sound that is very much coined as their own. These three feed off of each other’s infectious energy produced through their own unique styles of playing and that energy projects both onto and from their audiences just the same.
Becky Kotter, lead singer, songwriter, and guItarist of Zen Trembles, grew up in the small town of Spring Creek, Nevada where she discovered her gift for music early in life. Singing since the age of 7 and picking up a guitar at 13, it wasn't long before she was writing her own songs influenced by artists like Jack Johnson, Ben Kweller, and Ben Folds. She cut her first all-original album before her 20th birthday, and has been passionately singing and songwriting ever since.
When trying to describe her style of music, listeners have used terms such as alternative rock, progressive acoustic, jazz fusion, avant-garde, and even math rock. If you ever find her guitars in standard tuning, they won't likely remain there long, as she loves experimenting with alternate tunings and unconventional chord combinations often paired with multiple custom capos, colorful fingerpicking patterns, and fervent strumming. Her picturesque lyrics compliment her expressive & dynamic vocal range and unique, trill-like vibrato, and her inventive vocal styling and song arrangements have a way of turning any cover into her own.
Becky has called Alaska home (literally in one of her songs entitled "Home") since 2015. When not strumming her guitar, she can usually be found working on another painting for the band's promo and merch inventory, or in the mountains seeking inspiration for new songs, while bombing down the trails on her mountain bike or fat bike.
Lance Howard, accomplished multi-instrumentalist & songwriter also residing in Alaska, backs the band on bass guitar. Lance has played acoustic guitar with internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and Emmy award winning Faith Rivera in 2018. At the age of 18 he performed on upright bass with multi-time Grammy nominee drummer Will Kennedy. Lance’s musical influences are from the genres of jazz, blues, pop, rock, & world music.
Marshal Comer
Marshal Comer, joining Zen Trembles in March 2020, is an Alaska grown drummer specializing in funk, jazz, and rock genres. Marshal has been featured in countless artistic productions acting, singing, and drumming, and greatly enjoys collaborating with other local musicians through free-form jam sessions. Though Marshal has participated in hundreds of performances as a drummer and orchestral percussionist, Zen Trembles is his latest opportunity to grow in a new style. Outside of music, Marshal enjoys tinkering with electronics, fly fishing, frisbee golf, and cooking for loved ones.
Stay tuned for Zen Tremble's NEW ALBUM releasing in FALL 2020!
