About
ZZ's Top is a tribute band to That well known little ole' Band From Texas during the 1970's World Wide Texas Tour. The tribute group consists of three professional musicians that put the band together in the Branson, Mo area during late 2023. They are Aaron Napier-guitar/vocals, Tim Martin-bass/vocals, and Steve Froese-drums.
-Aaron Napier/aka Billy-
Aaron Napier grew up in southern Missouri, learning to play guitar like his father, Tim Napier. Tim gave Aaron his first guitar for Christmas, when he was only 14 years old. Aaron grew up on southern rock n roll music, listening to and learning the licks of groups such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, and the great ZZ Top. He would begin his professional road, with his family band called Newlight. Together, they spent 4 years touring the state of Missouri, Illinois, and Ohio playing for church youth groups. During college, Aaron formed an original southern rock band called Houston Road, that went on to performing on the Inspiration network for Whiplash Records in North Carolina. Moving back to the Branson area, Aaron wrote and recorded his solo album called "Your Kind of Love," that received radio airplay in multiple states with his hit song "Paisley." He was then hired for the "Take it to the Limit: Tribute to the Eagles Show" in Branson, Mo. In 2023, he was hired by Black Oak Amphitheater to open for the hip hop artist Nelly, so he put a band together consisting of several players including Steve Froese and Tim Martin. It was later that year that the three decided to put the ZZ's Top Tribute act together.
-Tim Martin/aka Dusty-
Tim Martin is an electric bass player and vocalis, performing genres of hair rock, classic rock, modern southern blues, and 90's country. He played on the road in the 80's to early 90's with "Teazer" a hair band out of Indianapolis, In, signed with Sunshine Promotions, having played all over the Midwest and east coast in the 2000's era. Tim has worked with songwriters in Nashville, Tn recording country genre music. From (phone number hidden)5, he recorded 2 EP's of original music with his son, Park and their band "Swamp Whiskey." In 2021, Tim played the rock band "Sychosis", out of Springfield, Mo. The 2022 season found Tim in Branson, Mo with the tribute bands for Three Dog Night and Chicago. In 2023, Tim worked with "The Solid Walls of Sound: A Tribute to Elton John." He was also an active partner in a blues band "Trailer Trash Troubadours." Tim is currently a member of ZZ's Top as the roll of Dusty Hill on bass guitar and soaring high vocals.
-Steve Froese/aka Frank-
Steve Froese (pronounced phrase) has been performing, touring, and recording for over 30 years. He has worked with Manny Carlton from the rock group Nazareth, blues legend, John Nitzinger, The Comets, Million Dollar Quartet, and currently with Jay Osmond. Steve has travelled and performed in Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Okinawa, and Alaska with country singer Penny Gilley in the 2000's. He has also taught percussion lessons for many years, teaching all levels. Steve has an extensive background in many styles, such as jazz, Latin, world music, as well as being proficient in many different percussion instruments. He holds a bachelors degree at the University of North Texas in music and liberal arts. He has studied with world acclaimed instructors, such as Ed Soph, Henry Okstel, and Ron Fink. He is a lead and background vocalist, with experience in writing and arranging music.
ZZ's Top is a tribute, covering the early styles of the band from the 70's decade before the beards and MTV, when it was only rock n roll. Their show is a 90 minute, high energy ride for the audience that is complete with staging that honors the feeling of the Worldwide Texas tour, bringing Texas to the people. The show is raw and as live as a band can get. There are no backing tracks, so yes, the band is what you hear. The guys are committed to give their fans an accurate look and sound of the band that inspired so many artists to play rocking music. This is as close as it gets to going back in time and seeing ZZ Top live during the 70's. The guys are on fire and ready to rock!
