When AIA takes the stage, expect audiences to be enthralled by her powerful vocals and even more powerful stage presence. With her vocals and banter with the audience, she knows how to keep the crowd entertained. Costume changes, dance breaks, a tear-jerking song, and more are all to be expected after years of musical training in classical voice, musical theatre, gospel, and soul, as well as her enrollment in Howard University's Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts' jazz vocal performance program. Even when AIA has given it her all on stage, her performances leave the audience wanting more, demonstrating her ability to shift from slow and sentimental to energetic and enthusiastic. You can be confident that your guests will be thoroughly entertained when you hire AIA for your next event.
Meet AIA, most commonly categorized as an R&B artist, but when asked herself, AIA describes her music as “new-soul;” a combination of jazz, funk, r&b and neo-soul elements put together to create something new.
Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, AIA’s journey as an artist started at a young age. She discovered her passion for singing around 11 and was classically trained for three years before deciding to study jazz at Howard University. AIA’s goal is to incorporate the traditional aspects of jazz, the groove of funk, earthiness of neo-soul, and smoothness of R&B to create her unique sound.
In the spring and summer of 2021 AIA was allowed to perform at various shows and festivals around Virginia. She headlined her first show on May 30th, 2021 at Songfest, and since that experience, she has garnered the attention of her city. From there, AIA has performed many more places as a featured act, including but not limited to the Richmond Hippodrome, Songbyrd DC, Poor Boy’s, The Collective RVA, The Pocket @ Drum City, and Main Line Brewery. She also hosted and threw her first show to celebrate the release of her debut EP, Intravenous on August 11th, 2021.
On August 6th, 2021, AIA dropped her first project entitled “Intravenous” or “I.V.” for short. The EP is a journey to self-love; it tells her story of accepting and loving herself, from being suicidal and full of self-pity to learning to love life. I.V. is AIA’s exodus from self-hatred and arrival to self-love. When listening to the project, she hopes listeners can relate to her story and know that they’re not alone and it WILL get better. Even when it feels like it won’t, Intravenous is a promise that it will.
