Expect a very polished and professional presentation. I have years of performance experience and am used to adapting to any type of situation. I work well in groups and as a soloist. I look to add to any event but not detract from it.
Noted for her “high level of fearless skill,” flutist Alyssa Griggs is a dynamic orchestral, chamber, and solo artist. In October 2010 Alyssa received first prize in the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition where she gave her solo debut recital at Carnegie Hall. Additionally, she has won first prize in the 2014 Upper Midwest Flute Association Young Artists Competition and the Florida Bach Young Artists Competition. In 2013 Alyssa was a finalist in the Byron Hester Competition in Houston, TX. Alyssa has also been named an Emerging Artist by Miyazawa Flutes.
Equally versatile as a piccolo artist, and praised as “memorable” by the Boston Musical Intelligencer, Alyssa is currently piccolo/assistant principal flute of the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera and second flutist of the Des Moines Metro Opera. In 2015, Alyssa will assume the position of piccolo with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra. She’s performed at Carnegie Hall as principal flute of the New York Festival Orchestra and has also played with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Nova, and the New Bedford Symphony. She recently took the stage with The Cleveland Orchestra at the Blossom Music Festival as part of the Kent-Blossom Summer Music Program. Alyssa has participated in such prominent festivals as the Aspen Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, Orford Arts Centre, Domain Forget, and the Pierre Monteux School. Her playing has been heard on MPBN, Maine Public Radio, Iowa Public Television, and Iowa Public Radio. She has performed in master classes for Leon Buyse, Michel Debost, Mathieu Dufour, Carol Wincenc, Denis Bluteau, Thomas Robertello, Mark Sparks, Martha Aarons, Nadine Asin, and Robert Langevin.
As an active chamber musician and collaborator, Alyssa creates innovative ways to make music prevalent to society. At Eastman, her quintet was invited to and performed at the University of Nebraska Chamber Music Institute. She also performed extensive outreach concerts at nursing homes, libraries, and schools in Rochester, NY, Boulder, CO, and Boston, MA. At New England Conservatory Alyssa held a Community Performances and Partnership fellowship for two years, where she prepared and performed interactive recitals in Boston with her pianist. As part of a flute and guitar duo, she has performed in Jordan Hall and has given performances and master classes at the Berklee School of Music, YMCA-Chinatown, and the Ikeda Center of Cambridge. Alyssa has also collaborated in a chamber concert for the Florida State Music Teachers Association in 2011.
Alyssa holds a Master’s Degree with honors from New England Conservatory where she studied with Paula Robison and a Bachelor’s Degree with distinction from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Bonita Boyd. She engaged in post graduate studies as a student of BSO principal flutist, Elizabeth Rowe and piccoloist, Cindy Meyers. Alyssa also earned a certificate from Eastman’s Arts Leadership Program and was awarded membership to the elite Keidaeans Honor Society.
An event planner can expect to have an organized, experienced and professional musician. I am easily portable and come with repertoire suggestions.
Typically for a performance I just need myself, music, and a stand. I'm very portable!
Depends on what is needed. Anything from Mozart, Bach, to pop arrangements, Irish tunes, piccolo etc.
My influences are my teachers! I look to the top players in my industry for constant inspiration and ideas
