I'll arrive at the event site reasonably early, so that I can be fully set up and ready to go slightly before the agreed upon start time.
I'll come prepared with all of the elements I need to be fully functional and self sufficient before and during the event. I understand everyone is very busy before an event, and therefore try to be as low maintenance as possible.
Once the event is underway, I'll perform at a volume (usually with a small amount of amplification) high enough to be heard, but low enough so that people can easily converse with one another. I'm very attentive to playing at an appropriate volume. I'll keep a swift pace with minimal time between songs. I'll also take up as little room as possible, and make sure that the area where I'm playing is neat and tidy, without excessive objects laying around.
Musically, I'll play a selection of music arranged for classical guitar, which usually would include traditional classical pieces, jazz standards, and some pop songs arranged for instrumental classical guitar.
For wedding ceremonies, I'll usually play traditional classical pieces for the prelude that are joyful and festive, and then play the pieces that were requested or agreed upon for the processional, recessional, and any interludes that were planned.
I originally moved to Greensboro to attend the UNCG School of Music, where I was a student in their Miles Davis Jazz Studies program. During this time I studied jazz and classical guitar, played in the UNCG Jazz Band, had solo classical recitals, and played in small jazz groups.
Before attending UNCG, I went to Appalachian State University. There, I played in the ASU Guitar Ensemble and performed frequently on the local music scene in a handful of bands.
Currently, I stay busy with a variety of musical projects:
Teaching private guitar lessons, where I maintain a studio of about 50 students
Performing and writing original music for the jazz trio Just 3
Writing and recording original, modern finger-style acoustic guitar music
Occasionally filling in with jazz groups in the area
Performing finger-style and classical guitar music for weddings and other private events
I’ve performed at weddings and events at many locations in North Carolina, including:
The Ritz Carleton (Charlotte)
Tuscany Gardens (Browns Summit)
Jolo Vineyards (Pilot Mountain)
Autumn Creek Vineyards (Mayodan)
Zimmerman Vineyards (Trinity)
Rock Barn Golf & Spa (Conover)
Wakefield Plantataion (Raleigh)
The Biltmore Estate (Asheville)
I don't require much. I'll bring my own equipment for amplification, as well as any cables or extension chords I might need.
I would only ask that you provide a space for me to play that is shielded from any precipitation, or harsh sunlight during the summer.
