Angelina Kolobukhova was born and raised in Minsk, Belarus. She started singing at 8 years old, when her teacher introduced Angelina to jazz music and sparked the fascination with Ella Fitzgerald’s improvisation and Ray Charles’s soulful delivery. During her childhood and teenage years, Angelina participated in competitions and festivals in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), attending masterclasses with artists like Kevin Mahogany and meeting like-minded musicians.
At 17, Angelina was awarded a scholarship to attend Adelphi University’s Honors College on Long Island, NY and moved to the United States in 2018. During her undergraduate career, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2020 New York Voices Vocal Jazz Camp, subsequently studying with Rosana Eckert and Peter Eldridge. She is also an alumni of the 2021 and 2022 Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency in Wilmington, Delaware where she has been part of a masterclass with Diane Reeves and has performed at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival.
Angelina loves writing vocalese lyrics to instrumental solos and bebop heads, and her performance of Clifford Brown’s Daahoud with original lyrics was selected in the final round of 7 Virtual Jazz Club Competition. In addition to performing well-known jazz compositions, Angelina writes her own music and has been part of the NPR Live @Home Series at Philadelphia’s WRTI Radio Station. In New York City, Angelina has performed at Ornithology Jazz Club, Chelsea Table + Stage, Birdland Jazz Club, and other venues.
